This is a time for Baylor to own up to what it has done, and find rest in the mercy and atoning, costly love of God. This is not a time for saving face. When David was confronted by the prophet Nathan in 2 Samuel 12 about his murder and adultery, he immediately repented. When we look at every other worldwide religion that also hold to the concept of a divine being, that being’s mercy is always exercised “at the expense of justice.”* For example, in Islam, it is possible for Allah to show mercy to an individual, but it’s done by dismissing, or “brushing under the rug” (so to speak) the penalties of whatever law has been broken. “In other words, the offender’s punishment that was properly due him is brushed aside so that mercy can be extended.”** The Allah of Islam, as well as every other deity in the non-Christian religions, set aside the requirements of moral law in order to for them to exercise mercy. Mercy is seen in opposition to justice. In a very real way, these religions allow for the old adage, “Crime does not pay” to be switched to “Crime can pay.” Read more

Carl Trueman has posted a couple of articles over at First Things (here & here) which aptly demonstrate the rise of the anti-culture. Essentially, his argument is that we are witnessing the collapse of American culture, being that the dictated norms of society are governed by what he has coined as the “Unholy Trinity” (the entertainment industry, big business, and legal institutions), which are intentionally disconnecting the culture from any accountability of the past and future. …for those saps who... Read more

I am not one to revel in the national situation we have found ourselves in; with the frontrunners of the decaying two-party system being between a narcissistic liar and a mirror (both Trump and Hillary are equally deplorable choices, if the reference was missed). Then we have Sanders, which has garnered the support of the intellectually dishonest and historically ignorant. The interesting thing: Evangelicals are scrambling to support the famously coined falsehood of the “lesser of two evils,” whomever they... Read more

In this article we will be taking a look at what happens when one is regenerated and how it all nullifies any possibility of their regeneration being reversed. God does not save a person only to allow them to turn around and “un-save” themselves. We are not purified and made whole only to be “de-purified” and made incomplete. The concept is completely foreign to the “whole counsel of God.” Read more

I initially started this piece as a stand-alone response to general, broader conversations on the issues of Complementarianism and Egalitarianism. However, in seeing these two posts (here & here) from Scot McKnight, whom we are privileged to share blog space with at Patheos, I decided to address some of what he brought to light. Most of this post is not geared toward things he raised in his own posts as the body of this was written prior to his posting... Read more
