7 Awesome Bible Verses From The Book Of Ephesians October 30, 2015

Here are seven awesome Bible verses quoted from the Book of Ephesians.

Ephesians 1:4-5 “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.”

These are two Bible verses that I cannot even wrap my mind around. Imagine God, Who is sovereign over all things, contemplating us in His mind. He purposed to choose us before the foundation of the world was established or even existed. He chose us to be holy and blameless through the free gift of grace (Eph 2:8) and predestined us for adoption as the children of God. That was not due to the will of man but “according to the purpose of his will.” That gives God 100% of the glory!

Ephesians 1:7-8 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight.”

Our redemption comes only through the Redeemer and that is through the costly blood of the Son of God that was shed so that we can have our trespasses forgiven and sins taken away. This is not a result of human good works but comes from the treasury of God’s grace which he so lavishly pours upon us.

Ephesians 1:9 “Making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ.”

The Bible has the gospel in it, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 but for much of Israel, it has been hidden and was still hidden in Jesus’ day. It took an act of God to make “known to us the mystery of his will.” This was according to His purposes, even from before the beginning (Gen 1:1; Eph 1:4-5). God sent forth Christ Jesus, the Man of Salvation, to make known this long held mystery and for everyone who believes in Him, it can be known (Rom 10:9-13).

For-by-grace-you-have

Ephesians 2:4-5 “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”

The word “grace” appears more often in the Book of Ephesians (13) than in nearly any other book in the New Testament because that is the theme of the book. Paul is putting great emphasis on the mercy and grace of God which are both unmerited and cannot possibly be earned.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

This is the most awesome Bible verse in the Book of Ephesians because it gets the sinner off the hook of God’s judgment. We cannot save ourselves by works any more that we can get to heaven without going through Christ (John 6:44; Acts 4:12). It is through the grace of God that we are saved and not a result of anything we did or could ever do in a billion lifetimes. If it were by works, and knowing human nature, we’d boast about it like nobody’s business.

Ephesians 3:18-19 That you “may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Paul is praying that the Ephesians might have the strength to comprehend the depth, height, and length of God’s love because “the love of Christ…surpasses” human understanding. That doesn’t mean we give up trying to comprehend it but we should give up the idea that we can ever fully comprehend an Infinite God since we are finite creatures.

Ephesians 5:31-32 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.”

This marriage portion of Ephesians chapter five reveals the relationship between a husband and a wife and that it is very much like the relationship between Christ (the Bridegroom) and the church (the Bride). It is a profound mystery but the marital relationship gives us a schematic with which to place it up against when looking at how the Bridegroom relates to the Bride. Just as Christ clings tight to us when we are saved (John 10:28-29) we also cling to Him and become one flesh or one body, which is the Body of Christ. Jesus is the Head of the Church so the Body must submit to the head.

Conclusion

I did not rank these verses in their order of importance or significance but chronologically. The greatest of these verses, and indeed the greatest of news, is that it’s “by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8-9). The Book of Ephesians lets us peer into the past, before the creation (Eph 1), to see God’s purposes and will, which are always done perfectly, and His will was to save us (Eph 2:8-9).
