Thanksgiving As A Way Of Life

Thanksgiving As A Way Of Life November 14, 2018

Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday…thanksgiving is a way of life.

Thanks for Giving

Thanksgiving may be my favorite holiday of all, but I don’t limit my times of thanksgiving to just one day a year. In fact, I try to be thankful every day of the year and give thanksgiving…thanksgiving to God. The truth is that God was the first giver. And He gave the most. The Scriptures say, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). How much more can you give, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). We’ll understand just how great a salvation we have when we recognize the fact that we “were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot” (1 Pet 1:18-19). That truth should compel us to be even more thankful. The Apostle Paul could have written a whole book on giving thanks (as we shall later see). For example, he said, “For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God” (2 Cor 9:12). Paul’s thanksgivings to God overflowed because the church supported the ministry Christ called Paul to.

Thanks for Living

Shortly after God spared Jonah’s life, Jonah suddenly very much appreciated being alive. It was not long after the fish vomited Jonah onto the shore that he said, “I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord” (Jonah 2:9)! The prayer Jonah prayed is very close to a prayer of repentance that many say when the put their trust in Christ. Many have cried out, “my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple” (Jonah 2:7), and in praying to God, many have declared, “Salvation belongs to the Lord” (Jonah 2:9c)! Since our eternal state before God has been settled, we should “not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Phil 4:6). Giving thanks to God destroys anxiety, and we know that “God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:19). Jesus says to seek Him and His righteousness first, and He will meet our needs (Matt 6:33), so “Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving” (Eph 5:4). We should be thankful to God for being alive and we should be thankful to God for our salvation.

Thanksgiving is in the Bible. It really is, but not with all the traditional trimmings we tend to think of. The psalmist knew a lot about giving thanks to God, writing, “let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy” (Psalm 107:22)! Our thanks are also a freewill offering to God, as the psalmist wrote, “I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord” (Psalm 116:17), so we should also “offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings” (Amos 4:5) to God. The Apostle Paul was instructing the Church at Colossae, and told them to “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving” (Col 4:2). God clearly says that “The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:23), and that is our purpose…to glorify God! Let us join together and sing, “I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving” (Psalm 69:30). Give Him our thanksgiving and say thanks for giving (John 3:16).

Thanks for Others

Once more the Apostle Paul was busy giving thanks (Oh, that others would be so busy). He wrote that “I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor 1:4), and that’s a habit I’ve gotten into. When a man offered support for our prison ministry, I sent him a thank you card, and said, “Thank you and I thank God for you.” I figure, that’s biblical because Paul did that. He wrote, “We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing” (2 Thess 1:3), and to Timothy, “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people” (1 Tim 2:1). Wow! Really Paul? For “all people?” Yes, that’s what he said. Later, he wrote “For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our God” (1 Thess 3:9).The Apostle Paul didn’t make his contentment rest with his circumstances (Phil 4:11-13). Otherwise, he surely would have been miserable, but when you live in a state of thankfulness, you are less likely to be discontented.

Let me conclude by praying the same thing Paul prayed for the Church at Colossae that I will pray for you, the readers (lost or saved): “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you” (Col 1:3), and I am thanking God for you now, and praying for you right now. It doesn’t matter if you’re saved or lost, I “always thank God for you…and pray for you” (Col 1:3), the readers. It doesn’t matter if I know you or not. God does, and that’s all that matters. To me, that is thanksgiving as a way of life.

This was excellent reading. It seems often, I’m not near as Thankful as I should be. When my prayers are really in the groove thankfulness is an a good percentage of my time. When prayer is not all it should be, thanksgiving is always missing.

    • Jack Wellman

So true sir. It is hard to be discontented while we are giving thanks.

      • Truthteller

It is truly a blessing to have you here, Pastor. Thanks be to God for giving us your meek and humble example.

        • pud

He is a liar, fraud, indoctrinator of children, a lunatic, hayseed, delusional nut case and absolute hater of actual truth. He’s a coward who cannot and will not debate me, he runs from challenges and hasn’t the foggiest notion of logic, reason or critical thinking. He’s a snake oil salesman peddling fiction to credulous gullible rubes like you.

          • Truthteller

If the pastor is a lunatic which he isn’t then a rational person ought not to want to debate him.

You are going onto block because I don’t want to read your xenophobia induced statements any more. It is depressing how poorly you distinguish between reality and your exaggerated made up fears.

The Pastor is one of the kindest, least threatening people on Earth as far as I can tell but your xenophobia has warped your perception.

Have a nice life if you can with all that paranoid delusion in your head ruling it.

I learned not to reason with lunatics and even better: not to read them or allow them access.

Now rant and rave again proving who the real lunatic is. I will remember you in my prayers because you really do need help or a tranquilizer or something like that.

          • pud

It’s not an “if” question it is a FACT. He is a lunatic as are you and the rest of your delusional death cult. He makes his wretched living lying to children…do you call that honorable? He peddles guilt, shame, worthlessness and offers up snake oil as a cure if you just surrender your critical faculties.

I have no “fears” and I do understand “reality”….your entire cult can’t make that claim can you?

It’s not “delusion” on my part pal when I can DEMONSTRATE my claims and all you can do is “believe” absurdities

I wish to debate the coward to DEMONSTRATE just how vacuous his delusional tripe is even to the satisfaction of brainwashed lunatics like yourself

“Believing” things that are demonstrable FALSE is delusional..”The true horror of religion is billions of people believing what only lunatics could believe on their own”

Are people who “believe” in Bigfoot lunatics? How about those who “believe” in Vishnu? Or those that “believe” the angel Gabriel visited Joseph Smith with golden tablets? Are they lunatics or not?

You think every other “belief” system is populated by lunatics but your deranged death cult isn’t. Explain that skippy.

Oh, you’ve “blocked” me….LOL just one more pussy intellectual coward!

          • Truthteller

Thanks for the rant demonstrating to this board that you are paranoid delusional and it has turned you into a cyberstalking bully always looking for a fight. That kind of lack of self control is not rational or normal.

You are not in my mind nor can you read my thoughts yet you just claimed I view non-Christian religious believers as lunatics. I have never entertained the thought that non-Christians are lunatics. I believe them to be mistaken and perhaps misinformed but I have never classified them in my own mind as lunatics because I haven’t spent enough time around them to make a judgment call like that.

You on the other hand have a lot of paranoid delusions. Your projection onto me just proved it.

Don’t put words in my mouth. You don’t know what I think and that paranoid delusional projection of your’s is simply rude.

Here is the psychological definition for projection:

A psychoanalytical theory, projection is the process whereby one subject believes they see attributes (both good and bad) in another. The theory views this tendency as a defense mechanism whereby unenviable or unpleasant traits, impulses or ideas are attributed to another. In this way, the projector is able to avoid the unpleasantness in themselves. However, the theory goes on to explain that in severe cases of projection, the condition of projection may degenerate into paranoid delusions to the point that the projector believes others are responsible for the projector’s problems and are secretly plotting against them. The projection basically allows a subject to ignore faults within themselves.

PROJECTION: “Andrew’s mistrust of his neighbors turned out to be a classic case of projection

What is PROJECTION? definition of PROJECTION (Psychology Dictionary)

And no I am not afraid of a paranoid delusional religious xenophobe like yourself. I am sick of reading your fear inspired propaganda masked as intellectualism.

Most of you militant atheists aren’t even original thinkers, you can’t weigh evidence using your own minds and all make the same claims and the major ones you can’t back up.

You better learn to examine yourself for your own paranoid delusional propensity or see a shrink who can explain to you why holding paranoid delusions in your mind can transfer over into bullying over time.

You need real professional help not an argument.

You already judged everything without examining your own psychological state for error but stalking a pastor on his blog for years isn’t sane.

Now you are ON block. Thanks for demonstrating your paranoid delusional bullying for all to see.
Unfortunately a lot of Militant atheists act like you though usually to a lesser degree.

I hope you see the light some day. Nobody debates you because their minds are already made up and they think for themselves. They don’t need you thinking for them. Plus you are not a pleasant person to talk to and people like to have pleasant days undisturbed by other people’s paranoid fears.

          • pud

LOL…You seem to have trouble with reason and the truth eh? Non “christians” are simply mistaken eh? LOL! Yeah, what about the 40,000 “christian” denominations….which one of them is the “right” one? A billion hindus and billion muslims must be wrong but clearly you are the truth and the light eh? And you’re not a lunatic because?

You are right about one thing here….none of you cowards will debate me because as you so aptly stated…”their minds are made up”

I would only clarify that by saying “their minds have been made up for them”

          • Andres Desaya

On the other hand, it’s your becoming a sour grape that has made up your mind against believers.
You were once a believer, but God did not meet your expectations. You should respect His decisions, and He could have given you something better, rest assured, nothing is too late yet. Anytime, get back and be aligned with God again.

Come on PUD, your experience was not that really bad….you are still alive. Don’t give up….
            Pls. stop hurting yourself.

          • pud

Blocking you now you stark raving lunatic…you can save your breath.

          • Andres Desaya

            Don’t be scared, believe….

          • pud

Ah….”atheists” do not make any “claims” only the religious lunatics from tens of thousands of religions across the ages made/make claims without any evidence whatsoever.

You like ALL religious nut cases only hope that I see “your” light…while all of them hope that you see their light. Funny that eh? You would think that someone must be seriously wrong here wouldn’t you? If you could reason that is.

          • Andres Desaya

Come on PUD, come out of your failed test. Follow Pastor Wellman’s secret…Trust God fully…do not hate him. Follow his secret…TRUST.

***Pastor Wellman, can you help PUD look for a job?, poor guy.***

          • Andres Desaya

Now, you told me…you are blocking me too. You are a coward too.

          • Andres Desaya

Pastor Wellman just does not want to add ‘insult’ to your injury. To be honest with you PUD, God’s purpose for you with your failed test was to make you strong. Pls. asked Him to heal you…..don’t put it on the good Pastor.

          • Andres Desaya

Are you still envying Pastor Jack Wellman. You accused him of many many many things. Maybe he understands what happened to you, most probably, he is praying for you. It is not his fault that he has a good job and you don’t, don’t hurt yourself.

You used to be a believer, got disappointed with God, and now, you are after Pastor Wellman whom God has blest. Big Envy…you can’t even deny it.

Come on PUD, pass the test! God is not to bad for you because of a test that was too difficult for you. Shake it off man!, next time, ask God the answers if your failed test. You can still pass…just copy Pastir Wellman’s answers to difficulty. TRUST GOD..with all your troubles.

      • “It is hard to be discontented while giving thanks.” Agreed!

However, why not give thanks for your friends and relatives who show kindness and understanding towards you, and you would agree. Or give thanks to strangers when they practice random acts of loving kindness to others in your presence or you. I think you possibly do. But giving thanks to invisible beings is difficult to fathom. I am sure that you don’t give thanks for fairies and neither do I. Why? Because there is no evidence that they exist and that they do good in our lives.

I am sure that you don’t give thanks to Zeus or Thor or any other of the thousands of gods that humans have worshipped, save the God who you believe has been revealed in Jesus Christ. Why not? Because you do not believe that there is any evidence for their existence. So what real evidence do you have for the existence of the God whom Christians believe was revealed in Jesus?

    • Truthteller

Thank you for stating what more people need to be reminded of. The image of God in people should command respect in people towards others but so many do not believe this.

Ever watch “Judge Judy”? She takes advantage of her positional advantage in the courtroom and usually disrespects every party that comes on her show by talking down to them and making insensitive and condemning personal snap judgments about them. She’s Jewish and should be well aware to treat the image of God in people with respect but not everyone is raised with this concept.

So thank you again for stating it so people can learn it.

  • Deona Flores

Hi Jack, I am sooo grateful for your thanksgiving heart. This article truly blessed me today. I especially value the quotes from Jonah. Its sounds a bit like my story…after God rescued me from a devastating life style…I was so thankful, the Spirit lead me to praise Jesus will my whole heart…daily as he gifted me and I sang out loud in tongues. Even now I still praise God every day! All your talking point complete a full circle of gratitude and I thank-you with all my heart! Praise be to Christ in the highest! Deona

    • Jack Wellman

Thank you. You are so encouraging. When I read Psalm 115:1 & 1 Cor 4:7, what else can we be but thankful?

      • pud

Nothing like another lunatic encouraging your stupid, irrational, self centered, mindless drivel eh jack? When do we have our debate? Name the time! I’ll be there. Oh, what’s that? You can’t? gee, shocking. Coward.

        • Andres Desaya

Pastor Wellman is not a coward, he is being quiet because he wants you to heal. He could be praying for you.
When you Envy.. it is you who is hurting most, not the one being envied. Know that!
God is love…He loves you PUD. God understands. Let go…

ME ME ME!!! but those poor children in the cancer ward…well, what ya gonna do eh? YOU ARE SICK.

    • “… singing in tongues…”. What is that?

      • Deona Flores

Hi Arthur, Tongues is a spiritual gift that is greatly misunderstood her in the US. Pual talks about the in Corinthians 12:6-10…6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. Tongues is a gift in which an individual speak in other tongues….abominably. Just like other gifts as mention in the passage I was pleased with the supernatural ability. In a church in Canada I spoke publically when ask if any one had a world of prophecy..and would then translate the message from the Holy Spirit. My pastor was aware I had been given this gift and approved of my participation. Other members shared words of prophesy. Th in the states this gift is not accepted in churches at large; I pray privately and when I an singing the words moved to a tongue language. I do no share publically. I feel emotionally hightened…extra joy, extra thanks…which pleases the Lord. Thanks for asking. Deona

        • Hi Deona,

Thanks for your reply to my question. Given that you are a Charismatic or Pentecostal Christian, your answer was very balanced. I am glad that “feel emotionally heightened” when you “sing in tongues”.

I’m an atheist humanist, but was a former Charismatic Christian. You seem to be an Evangelical Christian. For you, the witness of the NT seems to have priority over experience, even your “tongues” experience judging by your response. For so many Charismatics and Pentecostals today, prophecies, tongues and interpretation, “words of knowledge” and other “revelational gifts” seem to have precedence over the canonical Scriptures with many churches accepting theologies that were once declared heretical by those Classical Pentecostal Trinitarian Christians . e.g. Two examples considered to be modern heresy are Prosperity theology (a synthesis of biblical metaphysics and New Thought metaphysics); the New Apostolic Reformation (modern Apostles when the original 12 were for the foundation of the church and apostles were supposed to have been eyewitnesses of Jesus’ resurrection).

          • pud

They are barking mad lunatics…why coddle them?

          • Andres Desaya

Stop being sour…pass the next test of God to you. You are hurting too much PUD. Ask for Healng instead….God heals.

          • Andres Desaya

Why are you here? Don’t show sourness. Pass God’s next test, don’t be bitter. Make yourself stronger next time…..You can do it PUD, pass the test, pass the test,,pass the test. Yahooo! I passedthis time. come PUD, pass.

          • Deona Flores

Thanks for your read-back.No offense but I’m a bit surprised with your identification as an atheist humanist with in the context of your knowledge of the church believes and canonical Scriptures. What and how did your beliefs come about and what are the beliefs of a atheist humanist? d

          • An answer would take too long to compile. I am a graduate of one of Australia’s top theological institutions, so I am not ignorant of the various theological, ethical and exegetical views of Evangelicals, Neo-orthodox and Liberal Christians.

How I became an atheist humanist would take to long. There are many reasons why I have adopted this position. Google atheistic humanism. This might help explain some of my views, but not necessarily all.

I practice a peaceful and compassionate meditation, every day. I breathe in slowly and breathe out slowly. I experience the presence of peace, compassion, healing-mercy and loving-kindness, but I don’t assume that this means that a personal, relational and social being, called God, exists. He might exist, but there seems to be little substantive evidence to support this view.

But if God does exist, then I believe that he/she is a God of compassion, healing-mercy and loving-kindness and that everlastingly. All the classical attributes of God need to be re-interpreted in the light of his/her nature as peace and compassion.

          • Deona Flores

Very interesting! Graduations regarding you education re Australia’s top theological institutions.I graduated it a seminary here in the states with an MDiv with a chaplaincy focus. I did look up ‘ atheist humanist’ on Google…I empathize and share to a large extent and practice of peaceful and compassionate meditation. I’m glad you receive the peace presence of peace, compassion, healing-mercy and loving-kindness! of course my faith, intellect and basically my entire being is deeply centered around a relationship with God and his risen son, Jesus Christ. Physical evidence is plentiful, especially with the pages of the Old Testament. Blessings to you! d

Nearly 60 people burned to death in California and the death toll is going higher. Churches along with 9000 other structures were completely wiped out. PRAISE THE LORD! “He” could flood the entire planet but couldn’t be bothered to hear the screaming prayers of the incinerated and send a rain shower. “PRAISE TO CHRIST IN THE HIGHEST”

40-50 THOUSAND children will die of starvation today…but hey! “god rescued ME!! ME ME!! from a devastating life style. He even answered grandma’s prayer for a lower mortgage payment! “PRAISE THE LORD”!

Last month an entire village of jaysus loving peasants was buried under volcanic ash…Men, women and children all “praying” their little souls out….Sorry! The “lord” was just too busy to hear your plea but jacks friend found his car keys after dedicated praise and prayer to the invisible undetectable almighty! PRAISE THE LORD!

The power of prayer…N.Y. Times and Scientific American..OOPS! Better make up some explanation quick jack!

Seeking to assess the effect of third-party prayer on patient outcomes, investigators found no evidence for divine intervention. They did, however, detect a possible proof for the power of negative thinking.
The three-year Study of the Therapeutic Effects of Intercessory Prayer (STEP), published in the April 4 American Heart Journal, was the largest-ever attempt to apply scientific methods to measure the influence of prayer on the well-being of another. It examined 1,800 patients undergoing heart-bypass surgery. On the eve of the operations, church groups began two weeks of praying for one set of patients. Each recipient had a praying contingent of about 70, none of whom knew the patient personally. The study found no differences in survival or complication rates compared with those who did not receive prayers. The only statistically significant blip appeared in a subgroup of patients who were prayed for and knew it. They experienced a higher rate of postsurgical heart arrhythmias (59 versus 52 percent of unaware subjects).

“A way of life” Let’s all thank invisible undetectable jesus!

The number of homeless people in the United States has increased for the first time since 2010. Just under 554,000 people were homeless, a report from the department of housing and urban development said.Dec 6, 2017

About 15 million children in the United States – 21% of all children – live in families with incomes below the federal poverty threshold, a measurement that has been shown to underestimate the needs of families. Research shows that, on average, families need an income of about twice that level to cover basic expenses. Using this standard, 43% of children live in low-income families.

But the “lord” blessed you with a nice turkey dinner right jack?

    World Child Hunger Facts
Overall, 5.6 million children under age five died in 2016, nearly 15,000 daily (World Health Organization [WHO], 2016). …
Approximately 3.1 million children die from undernutrition each year (UNICEF, 2018a). …
Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year (Glicken, M.D., 2010).

THANK THE LORD FOR THIS GRAVY AND PUMPKIN PIE! Right jack? Must all be part of “His” perfect plan!

THE “deranged” gunman who killed 26 churchgoers in Texas was a militant atheist who ranted on Facebook about “stupid” religious people.

A former classmate of Devin Kelley who just committed the murders in 2017 said
“He was always talking about how people who believe in God were stupid and trying to preach his atheism.”

Nina Rosa Nava said Kelley was always on social media ranting about his atheist beliefs.

Google and read about Kelley on The Sun internet newspaper or read up on his bio on Everipedia.

    Regarding other atheist atrocities;

The historical record of collective atheism is thus 182,716 times worse on an annual basis than Christianity’s worst and most infamous misdeed, the Spanish Inquisition. It is not only Stalin and Mao who were so murderously inclined, they were merely the worst of the whole Hell-bound lot. For every Pol Pot whose infamous name is still spoken with horror today, there was a Mengistu, a Bierut, and a Choibalsan, godless men whose names are now forgotten everywhere but in the lands they once ruled with a red hand.

Quote above taken from ex-atheist Theodore Beale aka Vox Day from a longer quote of his on conservapedia in the Atheism and Mass Murder article.

    Watch D’Souza’s apologetics video called
“Atheism Responsible For Largest Amount of Mass Murder Seen” on youtube. It is only about 6 minutes long.

    Solzhenitsyn claims he spent 50 years studying the Russian revolution and it’s history and crimes and the only reason for it is as the Russian peasants used to say;
‘Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened”.

Beale also counts 28 atheist regimes in the 20th century and notes:

“twenty-eight historical regimes have been ruled by eighty-nine atheists, of whom more than half have engaged in democidal acts of the sort committed by Stalin and Mao …
The total body count for the ninety years between 1917 and 2007 is approximately 148 million dead at the bloody hands of fifty-two atheists, three times more than all the human beings killed by war, civil war, and individual crime in the entire twentieth century combined.”

    • Weren’t these murders committed by Communist atheists? I know of NONE committed by humanist atheists. Humanist atheism is radically different from Communist atheism. Humanists value the dignity of all human persons. They don’t believe in killing political opponents. Humanistic atheism is a radically different form of atheism from the Communists.

      • Truthteller

Yes, I do not distinguish between communist atheists and humanist atheists because no one ever bothered to point the difference out to me. Just like most unbelievers seem oblivious to differences in the Christian groups that committed crimes.

But all the finger pointing does is distracts from the problem of the human heart being evil.

It is a universal problem regardless of label.

I don’t trust political groups either. One group can look good for a while then the next administration is bad.

People identify as Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, etc.
But the administrations of these groups change over time. Just like in the book of Kings where some kings were good and even more were bad.

What is to stop a human being from pretending to be good to gain social acceptance and power then turning evil once he obtains his goal?

It happens all the time. It happens so much that it seems cliche.

        • I’m not as pessimistic as you about an “evil human heart”. Human beings seem to have the capacity to do great good as well as great evil. But most of us ordinary folk seem to be able to do good unto others most of the time.

But I agree with you that it is a good idea to examine one’s self and check on how we are doing, from time to time. Are we showing love to others? Are we being compassionate, merciful and full of loving kindness towards others (the ordinary people we meet upon life’s journey)? We all fail, at times. But there is no use crying “over spilt milk” and berating ourselves for failure. If we do, too often, we may lose our own self dignity and self-esteem that we might become too self pre-occupied and lose our self-worth. Let us just simply move on, and be kind to others in the present moment, and in the future.

          • Truthteller

Sorry to come across as a pessimist. Actually I think atheism is more akin to pessimism while Christianity is more akin to optimism. Christians are the ones who know to look forward to a future with God.

If the majority of Christians in this world could only re-examine the infernal hell doctrine and detect that it is erroneous then Christians would be even more optimistic than they already are.

Locate and study Christian Universalism and Universal Reconciluation.

This may be my last comment. I may delete the account as I feel I have said enough on religion and would rather be live with it.

Too much time on the Net is not healthy for a person.

But I am grateful for my time spent on it because it opened the truth of universal reconciliation to me.

God really is in control of the work of salvation. Not the popes. Or any other person.

          • Well, I don’t believe in the existence of hell. So this is one point that we agree upon.

One of the many verses that refute eternal torment:

            1 Timothy 4:10
for for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of all men — especially of those believing.

“It is often remarked by those who oppose the doctrine of universal salvation, that if God is the Savior of all men, then there is no difference between the saint and the sinner, the believer and unbeliever. Those who make this remark, seem to forget, that while God is declared to be the Savior of all men, he is also said to be ESPECIALLY the Savior of the believer. Though it is true, that God is the Savior of all, yet a little more attention would teach you, that all along, in Scripture, there is a salvation held forth as the SPECIAL PROPERTY of the believer, in which the unbeliever can have no part or lot. Though all shall be saved with an everlasting salvation, yet the believer ALONE can enjoy this special salvation.”

            — Rev. I. D. Williamson, 1840
            The Nature of Salvation

If eternal torment is a false doctrine from papal false teachers then almost everyone needs to relearn doctrine.

            But so few will.

Most people don’t like returning to school and getting an even better education on the truth.

It could be some atheists have been confused into doubting God’s love by all this hell fire talk.

But really God is the better half of the marriage between Christ and His Bride the Church so can’t we always expect the best of Him.

Abraham said it: “I see that you will always do what is right.”

            Abraham was speaking to God.

You are too important to God John Arthur to let the weak thinking of people who misinterpret the scriptures to bilk you out of a relationship with your own spiritual Father so be sure you check out some of the best interpreters’ interpretations.

That is the thinking of the Universalists. Less spiritual people have branded them as heretics without even hearing them out but you give them a proper hearing and see if everything they say doesn’t line up with a holy, all loving, omni-benevolent God’s nature.

Use your mind and go check them out and God Bless you on your endeavor in seeking the truth for yourself instead of letting people pass you their errors through argumentation. Arguments can be loaded with deceptive misassumptions that are hard to spot.

The calling and qualifying comes from God not human institutions.

          • It’s got nothing to do with any imaginary “calling”. If God doesn’t exist, he can’t call anyone. The qualifications are always from human institutions.

It is too bad you didn’t read Williamson. God’s Word is a lamp unto men’s feet.

Why do I have to follow Christians who may be in doctrinal error when God gave me my own mind and the Holy Spirit as my tutor?

I can freely exercise my own mind in seeking the truth from Him. I do not have to stay in the bondage of spiritual intellectual error.

If you had read Williamson and other universalists then you might have broken out of this intellectual bondage to men that you find yourself in.

The carnal mind is intellectual bondage to natural man’s thinking which is error prone.

The spiritual mind is intellectual bondage to God long enough for the transference of His precepts and spiritual birth to occur.

If you stay in intellectual bondage to men’s thinking then how can you be spiriitually born again?

You just blocked your own spiritual birth from God by your own pride in your error prone intellectualism.

God gives spiritual birth through Jesus. First he wipes out our sins never to remember them. Then the long journey to our new nature in Him begins. We must abide in Jesus like an embryo abides in it’s mother’s womb.

Atheists who argue are the spiritual birth abortionists. You blocked your own spiritual births in Jesus so nothing was ever proved to you spiritually.
Then you want to seize control of others more spiritually further along the path of spiritual birth than yourself and dash that birth and regeneration under the rocks of your “arguments” which is really just unproven lies learned by the rote propaganda of this world.

A courageous person does not have to prove a thing. He just has to be honest enough to accept Jesus and put himself in Jesus’ hands following him like a true disciple and Jesus will start to change him.

Jesus changed the character (which is the nature) of all of his disciples.

But the ignorant, worldly, God hating world is busy trying to block it’s own spiritual birth and regeneration.

You cannot be reborn without Jesus and the scriptures.

I accepted God’s conviction, repented and opted for His spiritual rebirth.

            You opted for blocking it.

            Big mistake.

So, of course, you cannot know what a more spiritually enlightened person knows.

            1 Cor. 2:14
            English Standard Version
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

How could your heart be enlightened and teachable on the scriptures when you refused or blocked the earnest deposit of the Spirit?

Jesus is the Word which makes Him the incorruptible seed of God.

All you ever did was block and twist scripture John Arthur keeping yourself spiritually barren and in the dark.

If you never fully surrendered to God to be reborn as a New Creation then you could never experientially know what a fully surrendered Christ following disciple knows.

But you can allow your pride to let you make a nuisance of yourself.

You need to repent and ask God to demolish your pride before it is too late so you can properly be born again spiritually.

If you ask for evidence again you are an idiot because you should want to be all that God can make you to be. That is where all the evidence that really matters and has life transformative power really lies: in your bonding in a true relationship with God.

If you never achieved the relationship then all your scriptural knowledge is shallow.

            The true ministry credentialing process:

May His Grace Abound To You John Arthur. There is still time for God to transform you. God Bless!

          • Truthteller

How do I know your scriptural knowledge is shallow? Because you blocked God to serve a private heart motive. Christians call them idols. Or it could be a sin you refuse to give up.

            Matthew 22, Berean Study Bible
            The Greatest Commandment
            (Deuteronomy 6:1-19; Mark 12:28-34)
34And when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they themselves gathered together. 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with a question: 36“Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?”

37Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’d 38This is the first and greatest commandment.

It seems you gave your mind in seminary school John Arthur but not your soul and heart.

And you see this with unbelievers a lot. They always make everything a mind problem but with no experiential evidence that comes from giving their heart and soul to God how did they learn anything of real value about Him? Oh and the ugly motives they attribute to Him without checking their own heart motives or the heart motives of other people repeating their ugly conclusions to them.

So after establishing no relationship with God because they blocked Him or withheld themselves they then to proceed to grasp for straws and set up materialism in the place of the metaphysical.

You cannot stick a round peg into a square hole but the unbelievers setting up science as a false authority to deny the metaphysical do exactly that in their own minds.

So stop arguing trying to over rule people who followed God’s greatest commandment. These are the people with the mind, heart and soul knowledge about God.

You are not even a legit psychiatrist to challenge another person’s claims that come from their heart, mind and soul.

It’d be best if you analyze yourself and leave other people alone on spiritual questions until you resolve your own problem and make a full surrender with repentance to God.

Unless you do that from a genuinely contrite heart you can never know the truth so why are you arguing as if you are an authority with a right to influence others on their personal eternal fate decisions?

To practice the law a lawyer must have passed a bar exam because he gives advice that affects people’s personal interests. So he has to have a level of knowledge and proficiency to do that to protect the public.

So how much more qualified should a person be who speaks to people about their personal spiritual destinies?

The calling comes from God and God qualifies those committed mind, body and soul to His cause.

Anybody else without that kind of holy calling and commitment is a rank amateur on spiritual questions and should not be consulted.

Not any more than you would take a legal issue to an untrained layman.

Hope this clarifies! May be leaving soon because of important business calling me away.

So meditate long and hard on everything, John Arthur.

Why does a person with a calling debate at all?

No, that person educates and exhorts. Teaching and exhortation are both gifts of the Spirit. Arguing isn’t.

          • You are an expert at spouting drivel, aren’t you, “Glory”, “CloudNine” or “Truthteller” or whatever your moniker is? Why are you so afraid to put your real name to what you write? Don’t you want people who know you to see how sanctimonious you are?

          • Truthteller

I really don’t care to dialog with people who disrespect God any more but I am housebound at the moment.

I really must find a congenial group of people to post with because standing on the Word of God would not be classified as drivel by people with spiritually enlightened minds.

You have allowed your own spiritual enlightenment to be snuffed out and now engage in mindless persecution in a place you should not even want to visit if your atheistic beliefs were true.

You are just another pud now wishing to use Christians as verbal punching bags.

If your mind is made up against believing then demonstrate it by walking away and exerting some self control so you don’t keep verbally punching people but you can’t.

You have reprobated yourself and have gotten a taste for verbal fistfights now.

It should be obvious you need to repent.

Who were you trying to please by attending seminary? Mom, Dad? Clearly you never were committed to God in mind, body and soul.

Plenty of people can do science and keep their relationship with God at the same time so they had the commitment you lack or blocked with an idol.

I have said enough. Examine yourself. Find your error and repent.

God won’t give you His Spirit if you withhold on Him.

            God Bless!

          • You need to breathe in slowly and breathe out slowly, and calm down. You don’t seem to have any peace within. You need to find it, desperately. Slow your breath. You need to repent of your bigotry. Why do you hate peaceful atheists and agnostics? Isn’t your god, imaginary? Why should I waste my time believing in an imaginary being? You don’t believe in fairies, do you? There is no evidence for fairies nor for any other invisible beings. They are simply a figment of your imagination.

          • Truthteller

I am not angry just forthright. Stop with the imaginary stuff and just read those posts and reflect.

Who goes to seminary school without an unbreakable avocation?

Stop being angry at me. I did not put you in the predicament in which you find yourself.

Have a blessed day. I am turning you over to God now. This is all between you and Him now.

          • I am not angry with you. You are just deluded into believing imaginary nonsense. You might as well believe in fairies or leprechauns. There is as much evidence for these as for your imaginary babblings: NONE!

          • I am not persecuting anyone. Your imagination is in overdrive.

          • My mum and dad had both dies before I attended seminary. But the Holy Ghost told you something different, did he? He inspired you to write that, did he? Your Holy Ghost is telling you lies, but you are so far “up yourself” that you cannot tell the difference between your “holy Ghost” and that mythical figure called “Satan”. Is your “holy Ghost” the “father of lies”?

          • Theodore A. Jones

    • While we might get a deranged atheist who commits murder the same goes for Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians. See Bruce Gerencser’s website where he is constantly bringing up the crimes of Evangelical and Fundamentalist leaders. I think that murders committed by atheistic citizens are probably no less or no more than Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians as a proportion of each subgrouping.

      • Truthteller

I think the atheist communists topped everybody in their numbers killed so I always wonder why there is this constant stream of historical criticism and invective against Christians while atheist crimes are barely mentioned at all.

I think I am done analyzing it further though. It is just like the Bible says. People have heart problems but for some reason some get a free pass while others are made to eat crow.

But why? I have to eat crow for the Inquisition’s crimes to please some unbeliever? I wasn’t there and I am not a Catholic.

It is persecution through false historical charging of theists today.

It is too bad the Inquisition happened but I personally had nothing to do with it. It happened long before I was born.

It is just the world’s false charge today to distract people from taking responsibility for themselves and examining themselves like Christ said to do.

People have enough of their own sins and crimes without charging people today with the sins of earlier groups of people.

Welcome to the modern day form of persecution: Guilt by association.

        • I don’t believe that modern Christians are guilty of legalised murders committed by Christians in the past. They were not there. Both modern Catholics as well as modern Protestants and Eastern Orthodox Christians reject murder in the name of God. That is, they reject Genocide as well as all other aggressive wars and the use of torture as a means of gaining information out of people.

The church of the first 3 centuries was probably largely pacifist, although this is not universally acknowledged by Christian scholars. It was when Christians gained a monopoly of power that they adopted just war theory Augustine) and then later during the middle ages a political crusade mentality (based largely on the texts of violence and terror in the OT Scriptures).

Modern Christians mainly hold to just war theory so that they do not support the political crusade mentality. Some like most Anabaptists and Quakers are pacifist and reject violence in all its forms.

However, a particularly difficult problem for Conservative Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians is how to reconcile their theories of inspiration of the bible with the “texts of terror” in the OT and in the book of Revelation in the NT.

Thanksgiving is coming up and Jesus’ sheep hear Jesus’ voice:

From John 10, Young’s Literal Translation

22And the dedication in Jerusalem came, and it was winter, 23and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the porch of Solomon, 24the Jews, therefore, came round about him, and said to him, ‘Till when our soul dost thou hold in suspense? if thou art the Christ, tell us freely.’ 25Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and ye do not believe; the works that I do in the name of my Father, these testify concerning me; 26but ye do not believe, for ye are not of my sheep, 27according as I said to you: My sheep my voice do hear, and I know them, and they follow me, 28and life age-during I give to them, and they shall not perish — to the age, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand; 29my Father, who hath given to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to pluck out of the hand of my Father; 30I and the Father are one.’

Since Jesus sheep hear Jesus’ voice we should be offering up a praise to him. Never mind all the arguing that goes on on this board. There is the best thing to meditate on Jesus’ love for people.

    Reckless Love by Cory Asbury

Thankfulness is a great thing, to reflect on all the small things you do have instead of those you don’t can really change how you see things for the better. Truly everything we have is given to us by the grace of God, every single moment is a blessing freely given even if it doesn’t always seem like it at the time.

On holiday’s like Thanksgiving it can often be hard for a lot of people who are on the ‘outside’, so I think thankfulness has another important side in action of sharing that for which you are thankful for with others who have less to be thankful for – be it food, time or even just the Word and a blessing to those you go past – you’ll appreciate what you have more and they’ll find something else to be thankful for.
