Introduction

Greetings! Welcome to my personal website.

I am originally from Ashland, Ohio where I lived until college. I studied classical Greek and speech communications at Miami University (of Ohio) for my BA and participated in Campus Crusade for Christ and the Navigators Collegiate Ministry.

I earned an MDiv and ThM from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Mass.) in 2005 with a focus on the New Testament and Biblical Languages. I also met and married my beautiful wife Amy (a fellow student now with a Master of Arts in Counseling and nearly completed with a MDiv).

Following the completion of my seminary studies, I spent the better part of a year working for Hendrickson Publishers (Peabody, Mass.) in the areas of academic sales, marketing and research. My main task was to promote HP’s academic texts through direct communication with professors and academic booksellers, as well as assisting the marketing department in promotional placement and overall strategy.

At the same time, I taught as an adjunct instructor at Gordon-Conwell’s Boston ‘urban’ campus known as CUME (Center for Urban Ministerial Education). In the fall and spring (05-06) I co-taught Biblical Greek with Dr. James Sweeney and in the spring (’06) I taught ‘Paul and His Letters’, a survey class that paid particular attention to the apostle’s theology. The following summer I taught ‘Greek Headstart’, a non-credit class aimed at setting a foundation for learning Greek for those who anticipate feeling overwhelmed by the Greek courses at Gordon-Conwell.

I left HP just before my lovely daughter was born (June 30, 2006).

I began my PhD at Durham University in the autumn of 2006 under the supervision of Stephen C Barton, with John MG Barclay as a secondary supervisor. My focus currently is on cultic lanuage in Paul’s letters related to ethics and ecclesiology.

In addition to the areas mentioned above, my research interests include the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, Biblical Theology, Dead Sea Scrolls (in relation to the NT), honor and shame discourse in the NT, and exegetical methods.

My hobbies include singing and playing guitar, travelling, movies, writing book reviews, cooking, and spending time with my family.

My future pursuits include teaching at a seminary or university and partnering with my wife in pastoral ministry in the church.
