Westminster John Knox’s ‘New Testament Library’ is probably best known for having a commentary series (with recent volumes by Luke Timothy Johnson, Frank Matera, Jerry Sumney, and Ray Collins). I just acquired the latest commentary which is by Charles Cousar on Philippians (and a review will come in due time). On the back cover there is a list of the future titles for the completion of the commentary as well as other parts of the library such as ‘General Studies’.
Commentaries
It looks like some of the remaining commentary titles look very promising: John Carroll on Luke, Beverly Gaventa on Romans, Martinus Boer on Galatians, Alexandra Brown on 1 Corinthians, Stephen Fowl on Ephesians, E. Elizabeth Johnson on 1-2 Thessalonians, Joel Green on James, and Lewis Donelson on 1-2 Peter/Jude. I eagerly anticipate Gaventa, Fowl, Boer, Green, and Brown!
General Studies
I was already aware of the future commentary titles and authors, but this General Studies series was new to me.
The Law and the Prophets Bear Witness: The OT in the New (J. Ross Wagner). I imagine this will be a remarkably mature and insightful study from a former phd study of Richard Hays.
Methods for NT Study (AKM Adam), formerly at Duke for a year (or two?) and now off to Glasgow.
New Testament Backgrounds (Carl Holladay)
New Testament History (Loveday Alexander) WJK chosen very wisely with assigning this history book to a classicist. Loveday is also working on an Acts commentary, so we will see which one emerges first.
Pauline Theology (V.P. Furnish) Furnish has influenced my doctoral work in many ways. I can’t wait to see what he has to say in this volume!
