Eerdmans update of forthcoming titles

Call me a nerd, but I love to see Eerdmans’ forthcoming titles page. They have made my day by updating their October and November publishing schedule.

OCTOBER

Miroslav Volf weighs in on “Theological Interpretation” with his Captive to the Word of God: Engaging the Scriptures for Contemporary Theological Reflection. It is also a big month for Jesus studies. Urban von Wahlde has written a three-volume commentary on The Gospel of Letters of John. Also, we will see an updated version of J.R. Michael’s The Gospel of John NICNT commentary. Finally, Durham grad Anthony Le Donne has written Historical  Jesus: What Can We Know and How Can We Know It?

As for November, hopefully by SBL we will see the following titles:

The Eerdmans Dictionary of Early Judaism (eds. J.J. Collins and D.C. Harlow). Also from Collins we will see a second edition of his now classic The Scepter and the Star: The Messiahs of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Other Ancient Literature.

As for as commentaries, finally we will have Roy Ciampa and Brian Rosner’s long-awaited The First Letter to the Corinthians (Pillar). Additionally, Scot McKnight has written the replacement volume in the NICNT for The Letter of James.

Bruce Longenecker continues his work on money and economics in early Christianity with his Remember the Poor: Paul, Poverty, and the Greco-Roman World.

And, again, more Jesus scholarship: Darrell Bock and Rob Webb with their Key Events in the Life of the Historical Jesus and Daniel Stevick’s Jesus and His Own: A Commentary on John 13-17.

Of course there are many other interesting titles. It will be hard to decide which ones to save up for and buy at SBL!
