Alan G. Padgett, As Christ Submits to the Church: A Biblical Understanding of Leadership and Mutual Submission (August). “offers a fresh look at the ethics of submission, gender roles, and servant leadership in the NT”. Is he going to argue that as Christ submits the Church, so that redefines what it means for Christians to be leaders and partners. He also has chapters on 1 Corinthians 11 and also the Household codes. I am very interested in this….
D. Bauer and R. Traina, Inductive Bible Study (April). This is a reworking of the “Traina” method, heavily expanded to make it a comprehensive treatment of the topic that Traina is famous for. David Bauer let me see a pre-release copy and it is very good. I will surely use it in hermeneutics classes when it is available.
N. Clayton Croy, Prima Scriptura: An Introduction to New Testament Interpretation (May) – a theologically-savvy exegetical primer that looks very promising (272 pages). Seems to blend theory and practice rather well.
Jo-Ann Brant, John (Paideia Series) (August). I have enjoyed the Paideia series so far. Jo-Ann’s contribution (400+ pages) should be interesting and useful as she has done work in comparing John to Greek tragedy.
Nicholas Perrin, Jesus the Temple – I am very excited about this study, as it appears to give a thoroughgoing treatment of the association of temple imagery with the person (and body) of Jesus.
