Con Campbell’s Commentary on Colossians

A hearty congratulations to Con Campbell as he is getting started at TEDS this year. I had the privilege of supping with Con at SBL last year. I reviewed his book Union with Christ back in February. More recently, I finished a review for Themelios of his commentary on Colossians & Philemon for the Baylor Handbook on the Greek Text series. It is a short work (~100 pp.) and it is not an exegetical  or theological commentary. It is a running set of comments related to grammar, syntax, and semantics.

A few  features to know about when it comes to this commentary in particular:

(1) It works from Campbell’s own take on Greek verbal aspect

(2) It incorporates insights from Steven Runge’s work on discourse features

(3) You can expect significant discussion of “in Christ” language

(4) Frequent appeal to the work of Murray Harris and Peter O’Brien.

If you have learned Greek and want to take your Greek study to the next level, this is a great companion to working through Colossians and Philemon.
