The Fall 2013 (3.2) Issue of JSPL on Paul and the Law

Due the hustle and bustle of the holidays and SBL chaos, I did not have a chance to mention the excellent fall 2013 issue of Journal for the Study of Paul and His Letters (edited by Mike Bird and myself). Brian Rosner, “Written for Our Instruction: The Law as Wisdom in Paul’s Ethics” – Brian is one of my favorite Pauline interpreters, even since my early days of seminary when I read his Paul, Scripture, and Ethics as well as Understanding Paul’s Ethics. And I knew his work as editor and contributor to the New Dictionary of Biblical Theology. I have his new book Paul and the Law, and this essay is an articulation of part of his argument.

Justin Hardin, ” ‘If I Still Proclaim Circumcision’ (Gal 5:11a)” – Justin is an up-and-coming Paulinist and challenges none other than Doug Campbell on his reading of this text in its context. You decide who’s right!

Peter-Ben Smit, “Ritual Failure, Ritual Negotiation, and Paul’s Argument in 1 Cor 11:17-34” – Smit looks at this text from the perspective of ritual studies.

William Walker, Jr. “2 Cor 3:7-18 as a Non-Pauline Interpolation”  – If anyone can convince you a text is an interpolation, it would be Walker.

Michael J. Gorman, “The Lord of Peace: Christ Our Peace in Pauline Theology” – Is the concept of peace important to Pauline theology? This is a great study of this subject.

Timothy G. Gombis, Review of Colin Kruse, Paul’s Letter to the Romans

Myriam Klinker-de Klerck, Dissertation/Monograph summary of Pastoral Rule or Lesson on Assimilation? A Contribution to the Research on the Ethical Instructions in 1 Timothy and Titus.
