Happy couples build each other up; they don’t tear each other down. They work hard to speak with thoughtfulness and respect even in moments of frustration and disagreement. They don’t nag or vent about each other online or to their friends. Even when they’re not together, they’re protecting the other spouse with their words. Take an honest inventory of the words you’re speaking to your spouse and ask yourself (and ask your spouse) if those words could be more loving, thoughtful and respectful.
