From the pope’s homily today: “In the history of the Church there have been some mistakes made on the path towards God. Some have believed that the Living God, the God of Christians can be found on the path of meditation, indeed that we can reach higher through meditation. That’s dangerous! How many are lost on that path, never to return. Yes perhaps they arrive at knowledge of God, but not of Jesus Christ, Son of God, the second Person... Read more

This is a minister by the name of Jim Standridge preaching at Immanuel Baptist Church in  Skiatook, OK. Details:  During the sermon, preacher Jim Standridge, 76, of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook, Okla., begins by calling out a congregant for falling asleep. Shortly afterward, he singles out another man nearby, asking him, “Where have you been?” and following up by saying, “You’re one of the sorriest church members I have! You’re not worth 15 cents.” Standridge then abruptly changes his tone: He tells the man... Read more

Seriously? Yes. This is what we have come to. Details:  The same orange-clad abortion rights supporters who sent children to #StandWithWendy in Texas today holding signs like “Stay out of my mommy’s vagina” didn’t limit themselves to strictly scientific arguments for unrestricted access to abortion. Groups of protesters also countered pro-life groups’ prayers with chants of “Hail Satan.” Let’s go to the videotape. UPDATE: The Anchoress has some thoughts: You get a gang of already pumped up, hysterical (and in some cases terribly,... Read more

From CNS:  A diverse group of religious leaders, including Catholics, Protestants, evangelicals and a representative from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, issued an open letter July 2 urging the U.S. government to “expand conscience protections” in its Health and Human Services contraceptive mandate. The letter, which said the country’s “delicate liberty of conscience is under threat,” called on HHS to provide conscience protections to “any organization or individual that has religious or moral objections to covering, providing or enabling... Read more

Funny how a random visit to Facebook can clarify one’s thinking. He’s been on my mind, so I decided to see if Deacon Joe Marotta’s Facebook page was still up and running.  It is.  The latest entry is from June 27th, which would have been his 15th wedding anniversary. It’s a message to Joe from his wife Katie: I can’t let the day go by without wishing you a happy anniversary. Neither one of us was perfect, but what we... Read more

From the Daily Telegraph: A Catholic priest has been shot and killed in northern Syria, The Telegraph has found, contradicting claims that he is the victim in a widely-circulated beheading video. The footage, said to show Father Francois Murad, 49, as the victim in a brutal summary execution by foreign jihadists is likely to be an older video that bares no relation to the death of the Catholic priest. Father Murad “died when he was shot inside his church” in... Read more

This comes via Da Tech Guy on DaRadio:  There was a moment during Sunday’s victory lap on the News shows for gay marriage and its media allies who support it that was very telling. Bob Schieffer the oldest and fairest (and that’s not saying much) of the Sunday Morning Hosts in the MSM had just finished speaking with Ted Olsen and brought on Tony Perkins of the Family Research Counsel to talk the Gay Marriage Issue. TONY PERKINS: …We’re already... Read more
