A miracle is a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency. One of my favorites in the list of spiritual gifts in Doctrine and Covenants 46 is to be a worker of miracles. And again, to some is given the working of miracles; We all can have that spiritual gift!  If we listen to the Holy Ghost and act on its promptings, we... Read more

While wrapping up work late tonight, I felt a bit grouchy. It was late.  I didn’t get as much done today as I expected. I have even more to do tomorrow.  Meh. I wanted something to shift my rising emotion. I felt the thought to go to Family Search and look at Grandma Leona’s pictures. While I’ve never had that thought before, it didn’t seem too bizarre. She was the grandparent I knew best. She was consistently the person who... Read more

I love having friends that share their scripture study insights!  I love learning from new perspectives.  Roxy Kimokeo shared another gem about one of my very favorite verses of scripture—O that I were an angel.  I loved pondering about my desire to hide and shrink versus my desire to stand forth boldly like Alma does. O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with... Read more

I’m in the mood for healing and miracle stories. My great-great-grandfather John Bushman recorded one of his harrowing experiences rather matter-of-factly. Can you imagine getting your head partially scalped from falling under a wagon, and then getting up and trying to remain calm for your son (who is my great grandfather) and passenger while you drove yourself to the nearest town?  All matter-of-factly? I love this story, and how he thanks everyone who helped him, and attributed his healing to... Read more

Why read others’ words about freedom? They color the mosaic of freedom in our minds and hearts.  We discern the disparities between “then” and “now.” We realize that some struggles have not yet been overcome. And we see ourselves as a potential hinge-point of change, no matter how tiny and small. Sojourner Truth/Isabella Baumfree (1797-1883) was born into slavery in New York but took her freedom in 1826. She spoke only Dutch until she was nine years old. Her final... Read more

A dear friend of mine battles intense darkness.  She’s shared her furnace of affliction with me and I’ve cried and prayed for her and rejoiced at her victories. She diligently, daily studies the “Come, Follow Me” study guide for the Book of Mormon and various extra resources. I’ve begun noticing a change in her perspective. While she still has very bad days, she’s beginning to at least start those days in grateful praise and worship!  Her words have become psalms... Read more

“And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct” (Alma 17:9.) “A Portion... Read more

A Dream About My Future Wife by Jeffrey A. Bushman I have always enjoyed reading the scriptures and one area that I thought was amazing was that the Lord uses dreams to bless the lives of His children.  I have had many dreams, but only a few that I felt had the hand of the Lord in giving guidance in helping make life decisions. Sometimes I haven’t realized the purpose of a dream until much later. The following experiences came... Read more

Do you view obedience as binding, not blinding? “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost. …I urge you to stretch beyond your current spiritual ability to receive personal revelation, for the Lord has promised that ‘if thou shalt [seek], thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge, that thou mayest know the mysteries and peaceable things—that which bringeth joy, that which bringeth life... Read more

My nephew Matthew chose to be baptized yesterday.  He asked his 12-year-old cousin Kyla to speak about the covenant of baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost. I normally don’t leave all of the “talk-ish” parts of a talk in my posts, but I loved everything Kyla had to say and decided to share all of her wisdom and humor as she shared about covenant’s first step. For Matthew’s Baptism by Kyla Bushman Matthew, I am very happy to be here... Read more
