Wow. This is very surprising to me and is sure to provoke howls of protest and claims of persecution from Barton, Glenn Beck and the rest of those liars. Thomas Nelson has decided to pull David Barton’s book The Jefferson Lies because it contains so many falsehoods.

David Barton is doing some of his famous crack research to support one of his loopy theories — crack research meaning asking a wingnut rabbi a question. This time he’s fondly reminiscing about the days when people got married at 12 or 13 and went to work, as God wants them to do.

Oi. Here’s another example of secularists behaving very much like the Christian Nation crowd, passing on fake and out of context quotes from the founding fathers to support our side rather than the other side. It should highlight the importance of never just blindly accepting quotes from the founders that seem to so perfectly support our cause; do some research first.

Back in 1980, I attended one of the original America for Jesus rallies, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I was 13 at the time, so I wasn’t yet capable of recognizing the lies I was being fed. This year they’re holding the same event again and they’re making those lies plain for all to see on the flier for it. The first fake quote is from Washington:

David Barton keeps up his steady stream of lies and false claims of persecution by claiming on his radio show that the Southern Poverty Law Center has declared him one of “thirty terrorists to be watched.”

David Barton has another new coming book out in addition to The Jefferson Lies (which is, as the title suggests, packed with lies). It’s called The Founder’s Bible and it’s both an NASB Bible and a collection of articles by Barton that intend to show that America is a Christian nation. Warren Throckmorton notes that one of the leaders Barton cites as showing American to be a Christian nation was also a staunch advocate for slavery.

Dinesh D’Souza’s new documentary, spelling out his insane claims about Obama’s anti-colonial views (which he bizarrely thinks would be a bad thing), apparently has a powerful supporter in Gov. Rick Perry. David Barton said on his radio show that Perry is raising millions of dollars to get the movie distributed.

Glenn Beck is planning another big rally called Restoring Love, to be held at Texas Stadium on July 28. And he plans to restore love with the help of a sizable group of hateful bigots and liars, including David Barton (who wouldn’t know the truth if if crawled up his pantleg, perched on his ass and yodeled the Ave Maria). And he’s hardly alone:

Given how dishonest David Barton is in dealing with the facts of history, it’s certainly no surprise that he is equally dishonest in addressing criticisms of his work, even when that criticism comes from his fellow Christians. On the 700 Club, he responded — kind of — to Warren Throckmorton and Michael Coulter, who wrote a book called Getting Jefferson Right in response to Barton’s distortions. Here is his entirely substance-free response:

With our own Chris Rodda joining John Fea, Warren Throckmorton and others in debunking David Barton’s new book full of lies about Thomas Jefferson virtually line by line, Barton took to his radio show to offer a pointless and entirely substance-free response to his critics:

David Barton’s long list of Christian Nation lies seems to be getting even more brazen. As Right Wing Watch reports, it is now a standard part of his presentations that many of the provisions in the Constitution are “literal, direct quotations out of the Bible.” In this video, he makes very specific claims about the provisions that are “exact quotes” out of the Bible:

Two managers of Alabama Public Television have been summarily fired, apparently because they disagreed with the commission that oversees APT about airing a series of videos from David Barton that included all his usual fake history. The Current Public Media blog reports:
