On the Wallbuilders radio show, professional liar David Barton cited an absolutely idiotic claim by fellow fraud Michele Bachmann, claiming that the economy was 100% private until Obama took office and now we’re socialist. And he even exaggerated her lie and made it worse. Right Wing Watch reports:
Craig Fehrman has an op-ed in the LA Times about the Jefferson Bible and David Barton’s distortions about it. Barton is getting ready to release a book called The Jefferson Lies and I have no doubt that the title will be appropriate, though aimed in the wrong direction. Fehrman begins by noting that the religious right of two centuries ago behaved exactly like the religious right today, attacking Jefferson in much the same way that Obama and others are attacked today with cries of fake persecution and the always-coming attacks on Christians.
Americans have grown accustomed to the broadest protection of free speech in the world, but there was a time when that was not the case, when laws actually punished people for offending Christianity. In 1811, for example, the Supreme Court of New York ruled in a case where a man had said that “‘Jesus Christ was a bastard and his mother must be a whore.” They upheld his conviction, saying:
If you had any doubt that Newt Gingrich would turn the federal courts into an instrument for theocratic rule, this conversation on David Barton’s radio show will put that doubt to rest.
After his long history of adultery, Newt Gingrich is desperate to get the religious right voters on his side. That’s why he is constantly railing about the evils of secularists and judges who dare to protect the rights of non-Christians. And it’s why he has vowed to create the Presidential Commission on Religious Freedom on the day he takes office. But the document that makes that pledge is full of blatant hypocrisy and inconsistency.
For a guy who holds himself out as a paragon of Christian virtue, John Freshwater sure does lie a lot — and so do his supporters. They continually claim that the whole reason he was fired was because he had a Bible on his desk. Here he is on David Barton’s radio show telling that lie yet again:
Bruce Wilson at Talk2Action has video from a conference where Newt Gingrich appeared with David Barton and others pushing the Christian Nation myth. He writes:
Bryan Fischer mentioned my Bryan Fischer Award on his radio show on Friday, but clearly misunderstands the point of the award even though I’ve explained it in some detail. On his show he said:
David Barton continues to tell the same lies over and over again to his ignorant and credulous followers. Right Wing Watch has video of him claiming that the founding fathers based much of the Constitution on verses from the Bible. Here’s the video:
Right Wing Watch cites a long list of quotes from social conservatives praising John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin as his vice president in 2008 to high heaven. They were sure she was going to turn the race around for him. It’s quite funny to read in retrospect:
