Sometimes the chutzpah of the religious right is staggering. Tony Perkins and Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council did a radio show about that memo to DOJ managers from a gay rights group about how to make the workplace welcoming to LGBT employees and Perkins said that he is firmly against extreme rhetoric that demonizes gays:

With Congress looking at a deal that would extend the background checks required to purchase guns at a regular store to other gun transfers, the right wing has a new loony meme: Christian are going to be banned from buying guns! Over the last few years, every single anti-discrimination ordinance in the country has seen the same argument made (with the same picture used on the ads and flyers). It goes like this: ZOMG, if we protect LGBT people from discrimination, men will be raping your daughters in unisex bathrooms! Tony Perkins repeats this ridiculous lie:

If there’s one thing that the Christian right loves, it’s a good Paradise Lost myth. This shouldn’t surprise anyone, of course, as it is the basis for the entire Christian mythology (the Garden of Eden and original sin, etc.). Gosh, it seems like just two weeks ago that Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council was complaining about the unsupported claim that Joe Biden compared Tea Partiers to terrorists. And yet here he is on a radio show with Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association comparing those who support church/state separation to terrorists.

And the school board’s strapped for money, don’t want to take on these expensive cases to defend themselves with these out of town, carpet bagging lawyers.
