Mitt Romney continues to kiss the rings of every whackjob on the right he can find. While I was in Denver last week, so was Romney, meeting with Gary Bauer, James Dobson, Tony Perkins and Jerry Boykin. Boykin is the worst of this very bad group, for reasons I’ve documented on this blog many times before. But Right Wing Watch puts it all in one place.
Unhinged nutball and retired general Jerry Boykin is now the executive vice president of the Family Research Council and he joined his new boss, uber-bigot Tony Perkins, on the radio to declare that Obama is actively trying to undermine the U.S. military because it’s the “last bastion of morality and ethics” in the country.
Uber-bigot Tony Perkins hosted fellow wingnut Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberty, on his radio show and they commiserated on the terrible evils of allowing gay people to serve openly in the military:
Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-MS) was on Tony Perkins’ radio show recently, where he said some seriously stupid things about the Pentagon’s recent decision not to allow a publisher to use the official emblems of the armed services to create official Bibles for the four branches. He says that decision is a “government assault on religion” and that “to say that you can’t link your service in the United States Military and the comfort that you find in the Word of God is just absurd.” As if that had anything even remotely to do with what is going on.
Glenn Beck is planning another big rally called Restoring Love, to be held at Texas Stadium on July 28. And he plans to restore love with the help of a sizable group of hateful bigots and liars, including David Barton (who wouldn’t know the truth if if crawled up his pantleg, perched on his ass and yodeled the Ave Maria). And he’s hardly alone:
This one is especially fun. Remember when Rand Paul said after President Obama endorsed marriage equality that he didn’t think Obama’s position “could get any gayer”? Tony Perkins criticized him for that and now Peter LaBarbera is criticizing Perkins for criticizing Paul:
A couple weeks ago, Rep. James Lankford, a Republican (duh) from Oklahoma, told Think Progress that he thinks it should be legal to fire someone based on their sexual orientation. This week he doubled down on it and went on a wingnut radio show to defend himself, babbling like an idiot in the process. Here’s what he told TP:

Since the scandal over Secret Service agents having sex with prostitutes (and apparently refusing to pay in at least one case) in Columbia broke, the religious right has a new meme: This is all the fault of Obama and gay people and liberals who want sexual freedom. Tony Perkins and lunatic Jerry Boykin talked about it on the FRC’s radio show:
April 20th is this year’s Day of Silence, when students all over the country will go silent for the day in protest of the intimidation and harassment of themselves and their gay friends. And the Family Research Council, along with other bigots, want to ban the event. Tony Perkins had a Connecticut pastor on his show who is trying to get a local school board to forbid students from participating in the event and he endorsed the idea:

The absolutely maniacal Linda Harvey has a delightfully warped column at the Worldnutdaily that stands reality directly on its head and argues that criticizing anti-gay bigots for trying to deny equal rights to gay people is just like what the Nazis did to the Jews. Seriously.
