Glenn Beck recently announced that he is going to build a new city compound in Texas, to be called Independence USA. Jon Stewart had a bit of fun with it, pointing out how utterly contradictory he is in how he wants to run his new shining city on a hill on a flat plain.
The Bryan Fischer Award is given to those who engage in massive psychological projection and do I have a doozy this time. Glenn Beck is actually going after Alex Jones, calling him a crazy conspiracy theorist and claiming that his appearance on the Piers Morgan show was part of a conspiracy to make conservatives look bad.
This is a hilariously deluded video from Glenn Beck, claiming that God has tasked him to fix everything in the world, including reforming the media and the educational system, protecting Israel, and even find new sources of energy for the world. And he’s just overwhelmed by it all, but he knows God will lead him. This is downright cult-like behavior.
Probably the thing I most looked forward to after the election was seeing how Glenn Beck reacted, after months of claiming that Romney was going to be elected because he was in direct communication with God, who wants him to win, and is just like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. He did not disappoint. This is from his live show on election night:
On a recent show, Glenn Beck actually said something that was accurate. He said it in his usual faux-earnest, hypocritical and melodramatic way, but when he says “I’m sorry America, but your president is a liar,” he’s absolutely right. Obama is a liar.
During Glenn Beck’s speech at Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Conference, he said over and over again that he has “seen the finger of God.” And miracles are coming, but if we don’t do what he says, God will “withdraw his protection.” How exactly does one tell when God’s “hand of protection” is around us and when it’s not? I’d love to hear one of these loonies try to answer that.
Glenn Beck spoke at the recent summit meeting of Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition and announced that he is going to start producing moral and upstanding music to counter the diabolical influence of Glee — and this will make “the left” make out with him. Or something.
This video is a perfect little two minute primer on Glenn Beck. The empty emotionalism, the utterly irrational claims of connections between things, the flat-out lies about a subject, the bizarre non-sequiturs (“if I can go and have sex and there’s no consequence, I’m a slave” — What?), it’s all there. This was at Skyline Church in San Diego:
I know this happened many months ago, but it’s worth revisiting. It may be the single best bit of satire done in 2011. It’s Jon Stewart saying goodbye to Glenn Beck’s Fox News show in the style of Glenn Beck. And I’m sure it makes Stewart a Nazi Commie terrorist-loving Satanist.
This is one of those statements that you read now and then and you just shake your head, wondering how on earth you live in a world where someone would say it publicly and have it help them politically rather than hurt them:
