Just when you thought that reactions from the wingnuts to the Isla Vista shooting spree couldn’t get any more bizarre, Glenn Beck steps up to the microphone and turns the bizarre into the surreal. He claims that the guy’s manifesto quoted Teddy Roosevelt almost verbatim.
The Christian right has long had a dicey relationship with Glenn Beck. On the one hand, he speaks their language and shares most of their views. On the other hand, he’s a Mormon. Some have refused to work with him while others embrace him without a thought. And now he’s furious with those who criticized Liberty University for inviting him to speak there.
Glenn Beck did his best David Barton impersonation once again on his radio show, declaring that “thirty percent of everything in our founding documents comes from one book, the Book of Deuteronomy.” He can’t even keep the lies straight in his head anymore.
The self-loathing of some Christians never ceases to astonish me. The astonishing idea that humans are so utterly depraved that we deserve to be destroyed by God and then tormented in hell for eternity is incredibly barbaric and inhumane. Glenn Beck says we’re just “begging” for God to destroy us.
Joe Biden and Julia Louis-Dreyfus did a very funny video for the White House Correspondents Dinner over the weekend but Glenn Beck didn’t find it funny at all. He didn’t actually watch it, of course, but he did see this clip of it where Nancy Pelosi is getting a tattoo. And then…Nazis! I’m serious. Nazis.
Pete Santilli is a radio show host so far to the right that he makes Michael Savage sound like Al Sharpton. He’s the guy who said he wanted to shoot Hillary Clinton in the vagina. And he now says that Glenn Beck is trying to push Agenda 21 on the American people. Uh, Pete…Glenn Beck wrote an entire book about how Agenda 21 is a UN conspiracy to take over the United States.
A couple weeks ago a story started circulating that a facility in a tiny town in Oregon that burns waste to produce energy was importing aborted fetuses from Canada to burn, prompting much pearl-clutching among the righteous. Glenn Beck predictably ranted about it:
Glenn Beck is responding to Alex Jones’ attack on him as a “White House operative” by saying that “history is repeating itself” because it mirrors Malcolm X’s attacks on Martin Luther King. Because if there’s one person who comes to mind when I think of Martin Luther King, it’s Glenn Beck.
Glenn Beck spoke at Liberty University last week and struck his usual “I’m just an empty vessel doing the will of God” schtick. He says he only held the rally in Jerusalem a few years ago because God told him to and he had a special message to deliver: God’s coming back…and he’s gonna settle scores.
Here’s another one of Glenn Beck’s ridiculous daily staff meeting videos as he shouts at his staff about how America is going to hell in a handbasket and the Bible is the only thing that can save us. I especially like the guy to his left trying to ignore the screed.
Okay, this one cracks me up. Dueling conspiracy theorists Alex Jones and Glenn Beck are not happy with one another and Alex Jones now claims that Beck is a traitor and a “White House operative.” Imagine being so crazed and extreme that Glenn Beck is viewed as too moderate.
