Prize catch for archaeologists

Archaeologists from the Deccan College here have come across vital evidence related to the pre-historic human life dating as long back as eight lakh years, during the ongoing excavation work at Morgaon, about 60 km south-east of Pune towards Baramati.

The evidence – mostly Acheulian artefacts and tools made of basalt stone – comes relatively close to that of the oldest evidence of such tools found in Africa and dating 14 lakh years. Acheulean refers to stone tool manufacture associated with pre-historic humans in the lower Palaeolithic era across Africa and much of Asia and Europe.
