Take a nap. The end.
I’m kidding, of course.
The kind of tired I’m talking about can be resolved by simply taking a nap (and don’t you sort of wanna smack the person who suggests that…I mean, if you weren’t a Christian, of course).
No, this kind of tired never seems to end. It’s a day in, day out…get out of bed and long to get right back in the bed kind of tired. The pass another cup of coffee or, better yet, just stick an IV line of coffee into my arm kind of tired. The I cannot do one more thing kind of tired. It’s not so much a yawn, I stayed up too late, I’m so sleepy deal (even though that may be a part of it), but a down to the bone weariness that you just can’t shake, no matter what you do or how hard you try.
Maybe it’s due to being a new mama (or mothering for years and years). Perhaps it’s due to job responsibilities that never seem to end. It could be because of health issues that just can’t get sorted out. It might even be that you’ve have one too many bad things happen recently and you just can’t take one more thing.
Regardless of your circumstances– you need a break or you are going to break. You’d heard all about self-care before. Yeah, yeah. And you don’t have time, or else you’d have already done it. Right? Or maybe you just don’t take the time – you don’t take care of you. You forget all about that call to rest on the 7th day. You don’t get enough sleep. You don’t do the things that fill your bucket, yet you keep trying to pour out. But most of all – most of all – you’re trying to do it all, be everything to everyone, and carry many burdens…alone.
You know the verse where Jesus says “Come to me ALL who are weary and heavy laden”? Oh, friend, you have to hear the next part. The part where Jesus says, “I will give you rest.”
Rest. Sweet rest. Jesus meant what He said in Matthew 11:28.
Can’t you just envision it? The kind of rest that refuels and recharges and results in renewed energy and interest in life? Less wanting to hide under the covers (or crawl out only if there are gallons of caffeine waiting – not that I’m knocking coffee cause I’m really digging my Keurig and salted caramel creamer these days). But, hear me. You do not have to walk through life this way. When you’re so tired you can’t think straight, go to Jesus. I promise that He will fulfill His promise and give you much needed, breathe-a-sigh-of-relief, rest.
