by James J. Ackerman In August 1974, Richard Nixon resigned from the presidency in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal. Not long before, Nixon’s so-called “hatchet man,” Charles “Chuck” Colson, voluntarily pled guilty to obstruction of justice on a Watergate-related charge. He served seven months in Maxwell Federal Prison Camp in Alabama. Just prior to starting his sentence, Chuck became a Christian, and during his incarceration Chuck became convinced that God was calling him to do something to remember the... Read more

by Paul Larsen We all have stories about how travel breaks down walls and builds bridges of understanding and respect.  For some of us the travel is walking across the street or driving to the next community.  For others it is flying across the oceans. As I stepped off the plane in Cairo, a stranger greeted me. There was something familiar about him. It was as if I knew Youssef* my whole life.  In the days that followed we travelled... Read more

by Stephen Angliss Hard work is no longer cool among young Christians. In fact, it’s not cool among many young people at all. In a recent study, researchers conducted a survey among members of the millennial generation–approximately aged 15 to 30– concerning their beliefs concerning work. In that study they discovered the following traits: Millennials have a Passion to Accomplish Important Things in the World. Unlike the generation before them, that was primarily concerned with making as much money as... Read more

I will state it up front. I will be voting for Donald Trump. But I am not voting for him because I like him. (I don’t). I am voting for him because he is actually a mirror of the immorality from which Evangelical leaders persistently avert their eyes in return for proximity to political power. Read more

The problem with voting for Trump as a way to stop Clinton is that choosing the lesser evil may only cement this growing marginalization of the pro-life movement from Republican politics. To my great surprise, when pro-life candidates were progressively eliminated this spring from the nomination cycle, pro-life groups did not stage any strong protest. Read more

I do not understand the black lives matter movement because as a white, middle class, millennial Christian woman, I have had no reason at all to mistrust the police. Read more

by Robert Morrison Trump promises to “make America great again.” And he mocked a reporter with a grievous disability. He doesn’t see any contradiction. I do. America the Cruel can never be America the Great. I had the high privilege of studying under Britain’s Sir John Wheeler-Bennett. He was one of the greatest diplomatic historians of all time. Sir John knew Churchill, Roosevelt, Trotsky, Hindenburg. He even helped the young Jack Kennedy write his senior thesis for Harvard! If anyone understood... Read more

by Robert Morrison Our Lord warns us against the wolf in sheep’s clothing. The implication there is that, surely, we could discern the danger of a wolf in wolf’s clothing without having to be warned. For some of our leaders, alas, not so much. Trump is that wolf in wolf’s clothing. My view is being challenged by one of my best friends in Annapolis. He’s a former Ohio State political science professor who is also a successful international businessman. “You... Read more

The root problem in America is not “out there” – it’s within the walls of our churches. The control, gossip, slander, hypocrisy and lack of love for God and people has become so common-place, so normal, that we have finally succumbed. We’re okay with it now. But God isn’t. If we are really honest, we have to admit that the leaders we’re getting look exactly like us. Read more

Pastor Rick Warren really digs the new Ben Hur movie. And he’s not the only one. Warren really enjoys the tension between the “worldview of Rome” and the “worldview of Jesus.” What has always made Ben-Hur such an inspiring character, of course, is the pressures he feels being caught in between those two worlds. Denny Wyberg of Young Life highlights a similar conflict between revenge and loving one’s enemies. This “most dangerous message in the world” fired Erwin McManus’ imagination. The NAE’s... Read more
