Dave typically spends time reading the Bible/praying/journaling in the morning & for the past few mornings Ran has run to get his Bible to join him. I happened to capture them this morning while walking by the sun-porch. It seemed like such a great tasters choice moment between men. 🙂
And then a few minutes later they both cocked their head to the side like Forrest Gump & Little Forrest Gump did in the movie…
Today was another day planned out & devoted to cleaning & organizing. First I started with my trunk…
Next, it was time to get started on my big office project. Remember this?
I’m not just cleaning out my office because it’s messy… or because the baby is coming… or solely because I’m nesting… It’s because of David Allen! He wrote a book, Getting Things Done which I am desperately trying to incorporate into my life. It’s basically a way of keeping a really anal organized to-do list & office system. For example, this will be my new daily to-do list..
I realized at some point that if I am really going to keep a home, love my husband, make dinner, be a Mama to two babies, coordinate InterVarsity work in 3 states, fund-raise $100k a year, write a book, maintain a blog & pursue a Masters Degree for the next 5-6 years of my life then I need a SYSTEM doggone it & it’s gotta work! The typical daily to-do list can’t help me organize an overstuffed brain & the mounting complexity of my life.
So, yeah, I’m an eager beaver to get this system started! As Will Hunting says in one of my all-time favorite movies, “let’s let the healing begin!” 🙂
Apparently, the ability to carry out this simple-yet-complex-yet-functioning-system is all bound on you having a really well maintained work space.
At about 3:45pm today my back was killing me, but I had this much done…
Now, of course that left this mess on my kitchen floor…
and this…

and if you know the Biskies, of course this…

Now, I just need to head up to Office Max for all the “fun” stuff, a new 4-drawer filing cabinet, an A-Z alpha filing system, manila folders, etc. I’m most excited about deciding which books of mine to put in my bookshelves & hanging things on the wall ~ like my degree for example. It feels so grown up to hang your degree in your home office. 🙂
As you can see, progress is being made both on the house & the demise of my aching back.
As for rest? This weekend Dave, Ran & I are headed off to a 2-day vacay on the beach where Dave is performing his 2nd ever wedding ceremony for a couple of InterVarsity Alum.
night.
