If you’re catching up here, read Part I.
So. One of my best buds had thrown out the gauntlet, “why you, Grace?”
I’d asked myself the same question.
I took it to the LORD, “why me, Lord?” Why should I forge forward trying to be an entrepreneurial leader when there are so many other awesome ones out there?
A few weeks ago when I attended that Enneagram Summit and realized I was narcissistic, escapist, superficial, irresponsible, inconsistent, scattered, unfaithful naive dabbler, I also realized I am a powerful leader who —when playing to my strengths– can make things happen.
The epiphany:
- If I am going to write for a blog audience, I should challenge myself.
- I felt somewhat convicted that I’m squandering my influence on lame posts with lazy writing.
- I spend a considerable amount of time blogging any-old-ways, why not do the right things to eventually bring in blogging income?
- If I really am a leader and a budding entrepreneur than certainly I have things that I could write that will help, inform you & inspire you!
- I like to build. Why not build an online community if I’m headed towards book-writing-audience-building?
So. Of course, I decided I am going to put that entrepreneurial spirit to work on my little space on in the interwebs.
I am not a Cylon, but I do have a plan.
First things first, I caved and bought Darren Rowse’s —of ProBlogger Fame– e-book on 31 Days to Build a Better Blog. Call me a sucker, but it actually has the word “build” in it. For crying out loud, how could I possibly resist?
I couldn’t wait until the New Year to start…I need forward momentum people!
Day 1’s Assignment:
1. Create an elevator pitch for your blog = decide where your going.
Here’s mine:
GWG is an authentic and inspirational online community, 110% guaranteed to inform and entertain or at least pass the time.
—-I really wanted the word authentic because it seems so many of you appreciate my vulnerability.
—-I wanted the word inspirational because I’ve gotten great feedback about readers being inspired and I want to do more of that.
—-I also wanted COMMUNITY because I want you all —yes, YOU— to comment more often & for about 9 months now, I’ve been trying to respond to every. single. blog. comment & I have been loving it! I hope to build even more of a real community here.
—-I also wanted to include the words inform & entertain due to the fact that I’m headed in a new direction with writing more informative and well written, hopefully funny pieces.
—-Since my interests are decidedly varied (see below), I wanted to communicate that GWG is not about one thing but you may leave inspired, entertained or have at least passed the time. =)
2. Decide exactly what you want to write about:
I did! I’m going to be writing about 11 topics primarily:
- Social Media Maven – Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, MacBook Pro’s & iphones. Undercover tech geek. Tips, tricks & winning apps.
- Mama Bear – Parenting hacks, stories & pics of the kiddo’s.
- Biracial Babe – Reflections on current news regarding race & ethnicity.
- I love being a girl – Fashion and hair, dahhhhhling.
- Social Justice & Human Advocacy – Bringing you ways you can advocate for suffering people all over the world.
- Leadership– Helping us all be committed to our own personal growth & leadership potential.
- Jesus Freak – Ideas for cultivating your faith, with an insider’s view of my own.
- Pop Culture – All the cool kids are doing it.
- Aspiring Author – My journey of writing, editing & –hopefully– publishing a Memoir in the 2013-2104 time frame.
- Photography – amateur. Have camera. Ain’t afraid to use it or post over-processed pics online.
- Reviews & Giveaways – Books, movies, the latest DVD’s & other free stuff you just may win! =)
3. Create a landing page that I’d use to “introduce myself” all over the interwebs. Eventually, I’d like to make it right here on the blog, but for now I’m using an about.me page.
Here it is: about.me/GraceBiskie It’s in a rough state & a bit wordy, but I wanted to get it going. YOU should make one, it’s freeeeeeee. =)
What’s going to be different around here (besides a little design tweak) is that I’m going to be doing much more on helping and informing on the things I’m good at and a lot less rambling. I for one, was sick of myself rambling. =)
I am going to plan out the month of posts in advance and begin scheduling in advance, so you’ll know where I’m headed.
If your on board and haven’t yet, please subscribe via Google feedburner (or RSS). I want you to know when a post comes up that would serve you. If fashion is not your thing, ignore those posts.
Chew the meat, spit out the bones. –someone wise
One person’s bones, is another person’s birthday cake –Grace Biskie
My stats tell me that 85% of my readers come from the search “Minister Mama,” or “Gabbing with Grace,” or “Grace Biskie.” No need to do a google search to get here, people! =) Just subscribe all ready, sheesh!
I’m excited for this new journey! I really really really am!
Is there anything else you would add? Anything you want me to write about in particular? Especially if it’s something you think that I do well, that you think GWG readers would benefit from my expertise? For example, I’d love to a monthly 2-4 series post on something YOU all want to learn or grow in…could be about a certain aspect of faith or ANYTHING (how to shop separate’s) etc. =) Let me know!
On another note, any of you have any things your planning for 2012 that YOU are excited about???
