What is a conservative right-wing Republican Christian doing on this website? Read on if you really want to know.
Let me first tell you a little about me. I would indeed be painted with the above labels by the creators and general audience of this website and with good reason. Although I have voted Independent and even Democrat in the past, I most often vote Republican. I do attend an evangelical Christian church every Sunday and even serve on its administrative board and chair the finance committee. I think most people would describe my political, social, financial, and religious views as conservative. So why would I take time to post something on this website?
Sites like this generally preach to the choir. Most people will be attracted to this site because they are already Democrat Party faithful. I am posting here because I think you need to understand why people like me generally vote Republican and why so many people like me have not voted for a Democrat in many years.
As a Christian I am first of all committed to Christian values. I vote for those values. Party affiliation doesn't really matter much to me, but issues and values do. Conservative Christians like me really care about two big issues: abortion and marriage.
People like me believe God's view of justice and concern for the helpless extends to the unborn. We also believe God instituted marriage between a man and a woman and that God punished Sodom because of the sin of homosexuality. Because of these beliefs, I don't fit well in the current Democrat Party. I seldom find a Democrat that reflects my views on these issues.
Please understand that I do not intend to make my post a defense or attack piece on these two big issues. I simply wish to point out that there is a clear difference in the general position of the Republican and Democrat parties on these issues. As long as these two elephants are in the kitchen (pun intended) the Democrat party will have an impossible task in winning over conservative Christian voters like me.
