Isa 58 Vision

“If you would do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing of the finger and the malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the need of the oppressed, then your night will become like the noonday.” – Isa. 58:9-10

If a piece of Scripture were to cast the vision for the Democratic Party, this should be it.

The Democrats’ current message highlights the Republican failure to respond to Hurricane Katrina and the bundled war in Iraq. While these are indeed tremendous moral failures, if we try to take back Congress on this message, I foresee us waking up on Nov. 8 sobered by the realization that America does not respond to those who can whine the loudest.

People respond to leadership. The tremendous void in public leadership is handing the Party a gigantic gift that we seem to be trying very hard not to receive.

We need to stand up and cast a vision of what we will do, not just to correct the wrongs of Katrina and Iraq; but, especially how we are going to change the course of our nation.

We need to cast a vision of a country that reflects biblical values of loosening the chains of injustice, breaking the bonds of oppression and setting the captives free.

Then the night into which our current administration has led us will shine like the noonday, making the extreme injustices inflicted on God’s children so apparent that the nation will not be able to do anything but to respond to the leadership of a Democratic Party guided by God’s prophetic voice.

BUT WE NEED TO LEAD!

Democratic leaders, from Hillary Clinton & Barak Obama to Melissa Bean & Dan Seals, if you are out there, please stop playing it safe & lead our nation in this direction.
