Religious right needs to address other values

Religious right needs to address other values 2013-05-09T06:19:48-06:00

Former Senator Danforth is right.  It is high time the Republicans

unaligned themselves from the likes of Dobson, Ralph Reed or Tony
Perkins.  They need to have an honest look at the value to addressing
issues of poverty, war, and equality.

Former Missouri Senator John Danforth (R) warned his party that they
need to move to the center and away from the Christian Right.  This is
all in conjunction with his new book entitled "Faith and Politics: How
the 'Moral Values' Debate Divides America and How to Move Forward
Together."

While many of the Christian Right leaders held their "Values Voter
Summit" this past weekend they seem to be on the verge of disarray.
Dr. James Dobson in a speech in Pennsylvania spoke out against the
Republican leadership for not getting his way, yet endorses them from
the pulpit of his tax-exempt non-profit Focus on the Family.  State
level chapters of the Christian Coalition such as Ohio, Iowa, Alabama
and Georgia are leaving the national organization because of it's "more
liberal" stances on net neutrality, the environment and minimum wage
increase.  Their appearance to be leading the moral charge is being
exposed as a fraud.

Economic issues such as the minimum wage increase or people
suffering from poverty mentioned by these leaders.  It is merely the
voice saying we want lower taxes and we will continue to drive the
wedges issues through this divided country.

Former Senator Danforth is right.  It is high time the Republicans
unaligned themselves from the likes of Dobson, Ralph Reed or Tony
Perkins.  They need to have an honest look at the value to addressing
issues of poverty, war, and equality.

This is why this site is so vital to the discussion.  We need to
have a voice to call people of faith, Democrats and Republicans alike
to a serious discussion involving poverty, war and equality.
