Thank you, sir, for standing up for Catholocism!
I am located in the state of Missouri and every election I pour over the nominees' information to see their stand on vital issues that concern our Church's teachings. Please believe me when I say that often it is very hard to find a definative answer from candidates! Our Catholic Missourian Newspaper sends out questionaires on vital questions and very often there is no response from the candidates. Those who do respond are printed and the Catholic community then knows thier stand on such issues as Somatic Stem Cell Research.
My ancestors are clapping thier hands now as the Democratic Party now takes a stand FOR Religion in Politics, even though most were not Catholic, they were, however, Democrats and very religiously oriented in thier every day life and attended their church of choice regularly.
Concerning Homosexuality and the Church, I would like to inform anyone who has "ears to hear" and "eyes to see" that the Church's toleration of homosexuals being able to attend Church and be part of the Community does work! I never considered myself as a homosexual and was raised 'cradle Catholic', but at the age of 38, I found myself in love with a woman. It took us 15 years to actually live together-up to that time we kept in touch and saw each other infrequently. My partner had no previous religious education in any church, and believe me, I had a very hard time in reconciling my Church with what my heart said to me and answering her questions about "Why?".
The end result is that she is now Catholic as of this year and VERY happy about it. She now understands that there IS a hole in your heart that only God can fill and until that is allowed by each person, they will keep searching this material world for fulfillment.
We are living together now, but celibately, and its not hard to do like most people would think. We keep active in Church activities, Bible Study, and we say the Rosary every night together. And, most of all, we are happy and filled with joy that God is first in our life.
And that brings me around to say, I am Catholic first and a resident of this United States second, and I vote accordingly.
Thank you again for being Catholic and a Democrat
