The Path To Freedom

This tragic demise of our Constitution will be one of the unintended consequences of this War on Terror if freedom loving Americans do not stand against this type of tyranny.

Because I oppose the war, I do not appreciate people saying that I am against the troops or walking lock-step with the enemy. I am doing nothing of the kind. Freedom gives me the right to express my opinion. That’s the foundation upon which this nation was built. The power of dissent in a democracy creates a healthy democracy. When those in power seek to stifle dissent they are destroying the very principles which they say they are trying to uphold.

Freedom demands an open, honest dialogue on every public and private policy of our nation; to quell dissent as if the dissenter is not patriotic creates an environment that will ultimately destroy the principles upon which this nation has stood since 1776. When we descend to that level, we are no longer headed toward freedom.

I am a Christian and I am not ashamed to declare it. However I am ashamed of policies being fostered in the name of Jesus Christ that demean the poor and indiscriminately  kill the helpless, who are not fighting against us. I am against economic policies that overtax the poor and middle class while giving huge tax relief to the wealthy. I am against the policies that allow the continued and unneccesary suffering of millions of displaced Katrina victims while billions are spent each day on a war that is nothing short of sectarian violence spiraling steadily into civil conflict.

Jesus would not approve of our policies. If He speaks out against our policies is He signalling to us that He wants to destory our freedom? I think not. So let’s dialogue about how one can be a Christian and support or not support the policies that degrade and demean the very people for whom Jesus died.
