To Faithful Democrats: Congratulations…and a few comments

I want to congratulate the team of Faithful Democrats for establishing this new site for Democrats of faith.

It is high time that those in our party learned how to address those in the religious communities.

Yet there are some concerns I want to voice here. 

I want to congratulate the team of Faithful Democrats for establishing this new site for Democrats of faith.

It is high time that those in our party learned how to address those in the religious communities.

Yet there are some concerns I want to voice here. I have appreciated the Democratic Party’s commitment to beloved tradition of separation of church and state. I would hope that this organization would continue to honor that tradition.

Also, I have always appreciated Democrat’s reluctance to take those things which are sacred and turn them into political footballs. It’s been my biggest grievance with those in the GOP and the Religious Right is their willingness to co-opt religious language for political leverage in advancing their agenda, even when particular legislation they pursued might not have any religious connotations.

While I’m sure that Democrats need learn how to speak from a moral perspective, I have no desire to become guilty of the same abuses that those in the GOP and Religious Right have done. Meanwhile, from what I’ve seen, your organization appears to be avoiding those pitfalls. I look forward to seeing more of your organizations work in the future.
