As one of the world's most popular rock stars, Bono expresses his faith through helping a continent in need. He carries the message through music, videos, concerts and now carries it to corporate America.
I should have written about this a couple of days ago when it first
got on the news but here I am, about a week later, after Bono was in
Chicago talking to Oprah and hitting up President Bush while he stopped
in town as well.
For the last twenty years Bono, the lead singer of U2, has been
building up his mission and his goal to end extreme poverty and
fighting AIDS in Africa. If you want to find out more about his
organization visit the D.A.T.A.
website. He has used charity to delivery money to Africa to fight for
debt relief, AIDS, and to make trade fair. He helped organize Live 8
and the One Campaign to lobby the
richest eight countries to drop the debts against the poorest of
nations and to make the trade of their exports fair. He has been
somewhat successful (more successful than what most would have ever
thought he could be). Now he takes this call to the largest
coorporations such as GAP, Apple and American Express. It is called (Product) Red. These companies will be selling special merchandise in which a percentage will go towards The Global Fund to fight AIDS, malaria and TB.
The fight continues but it is one more step and a necessary one at
that. Coorporations have a stake in the vitality of Africa just as each
human being does because these people are our fellow human beings, our
brothers and sisters. The compassion of our faith needs to be expressed
by extending more than a hand to third world countries but actions as
well.
Bono proclaims at the U2 concert that if we but the human race back
on earth we can end extreme poverty in the next 50 years. I would like
to believe so as well we just all need to do our part.

send a portion of the proceeds to the cause, go out and buy it. If you
want to tell a representative what you think about the issue (or any
other issue) tell him or her through their website or on the phone.
There is nothing greater than participating in change for the common
good because it is done out of love.
