So what does a Christian democrat look like? How did we come to associate Republicans with Christianity?
If we look back at the founding fathers and the Declaration of Independence we see the phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Democrats put the economy as central tennants of democracy. Republicans put personal and social issues at the front of democracy. If we ignore the economy we won't be able to have any opinions about personal and social issues because we will be oppressed. Many Christians think America is a Christian country.
America is not a Christian country. Were native americans Christian? Hardly. They believed in natural things. The Pilgrims fled Europe for fear of religous persecution this is true. However the Pilgrims and the founding fathers are two different things. If you look at the documents, of the founding, of this country you will see no mention of a Christian God or Christianity. I am talking about The constitution, The Bill of Rights, and The Declaration of Independence.
Furthermore in 1793 in the first document that does mention Christianity and was ratified by the congress it specifically says in article 11 of the Barbury of Tripoli that we are not a Christian nation.
Another example of the separation of God and America comes with the Pledge of Allegance. "The Pledge" was first published in a secular magazing Boys Life in 1892. It did not have the phrase "Under God" in it. In fact it wasn't until 1954 after WW2 that the phrase "Under God" was added to the pledge of allegance. So for 62 years people said the pledge without the words "Under God."
The motto "In God We Trust" on American coins: Congress first approved the design on April 22, 1864. Later that year, a two-cent piece became the first U.S. coin to carry the motto.
Brief History: Since 1864, the motto must appear on all silver and gold coins by law.
Congress passed the Coinage Act of February 12, 1873. It said that the Secretary "may cause the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to be inscribed on such coins as shall admit of such motto."
The motto disappeared from the five-cent coin in 1883, and did not reappear until production of the Jefferson nickel began in 1938.
The motto has been in continuous use on the one-cent coin since 1909, and on the ten-cent coin since 1916. It also has appeared on all gold coins and silver dollar coins, half-dollar coins, and quarter-dollar coins struck since July 1, 1908.
Recent History: All U.S. coins have carried "In God We Trust" since 1938, the motto was not displayed on paper money until 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. This was put into motion by President Eisenhower who declared "In God We Trust" the national motto of the United States on July 30, 1956.

I think that by putting personal issues like faith at the front of democracy really isn't democracy at all. We are going back to the ages before the English and others fled to America to flee the church of England and their doctrine.
We need to know what were voting for. Although personal and social issues are very important to me they are not at the foundation of democracy.
Take a look at your voting pamplet and see what the party you are voting for is saying about the issues. Even if someone looks like a great person they stick close to party lines once they are elected.
