The Iraq Memorial Quilt — A season for peace! 2013-05-09T06:09:39-06:00

I created the Iraq Memorial Quilt to speak for these fallen heroes for I truly believe pictures speak louder than words.  To see the quilt and all the pictures on the quilt, go to www.cyndc.com

There are few times in my life where I was without words.  This is one of those occasions.  This quilt shows the faces of real people.  It is about men and women, old and young who are never coming home.  They are someone's son or daughter.  They were loved and are now lost forever.
Nothing can bring them back.  You cannot look at the thousands of faces on this quilt without realizing that.  It is a very high price to pay.
The hardest part of making this quilt was looking at each and every face on this quilt and how they died.
The vast majority of them (over 95%) didn't die in some brave or honorable battle.  They died driving down a road on their way to work.  In most cases, there was no battle.  There was no warning.  There was just BOOM!  and then came death.
No you cannot look at the faces in these pictures without being changed in some way.
It was then that I realized that to just say "Support our troops" was not enough.
It was then that I realized this quilt could not be about politics.
The faces of the fallen heroes of this conflict must be remembered for all time so that in the future others might not have to sacrifice so much.
Perhaps these faces can speak louder than my words.  Perhaps these faces can unite in us in one purpose — peace.
I fear that if we cannot come together to honor these fallen heroes and save others from this ultimate sacrifice we shall be lost as a nation.
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 says:
1)To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2)A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to plusk up that which is planted;
3)A time to kill and a time to heal; a time to break down and a time to build up;
4)A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to moun and a time to dance;
5)A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6)A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to cast away;
7)A time to rend and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak;
8)A time to love and a time to hate; a time of war and a time of peace.
These faces speak louder than ever that there can no longer be a double standard about the preservation of life.   These lives were as precious as some embryo.  Those that will be lost in the coming months are treasured by their families and loved ones.
The season is NOW to stand up for what is right even though it may be hard.  The time is nowNOW to speak loud and clear in one united voice.
Save our troops! "Give Peace a Chance"!
