No Liberty & Justice for all

No Liberty & Justice for all 2013-05-09T06:09:19-06:00

Whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty" in this country?  Today it is guilty until proven innocent and if you don't have big bucks to spend on an attorney, you could even end up being an innocent person found guilty.

It amazes me how naive people are about out legal system.  You always hear "it's the best system in the world" or "if you don't like it, leave".  It's like you're not allowed to point out that our legal system today is seriously flawed.  No Blind justice is leading blind people and all you have to do is find yourself a victim of this ever growing police state to learn the truth.

The media holds police up like they are saints, like they can't lie.  Well, shocking as it may be, I have got news for you.  COPS LIE!  They lie a lot!  They lie all the time!  They lie every day!   They are human beings with human frailties and prejudices.  There are good cops and bad cops.  They are under pressures that ordinary people cannot and don't understand.  Don't get me wrong.  Overall, police are good guys to be respected.  But they are not gods and they do lie and they do make mistakes.   And often they do have agendas especially when they are on the job.

I find it amazing that my generation has long forgotten that we called cops "Pigs".  Orwell actually started that in his novel "Animal Farm" as he portrayed the pigs on the farm as the cops and people in charge.  In the days of our youth, we didn't trust cops.  What happened?  Did we grow up and feel bad because we challenged authority.  And since today we represent the authority, then perhaps we believe we deserve respect without earning it.  Perhaps we have been too busy working and raising our families.  Perhaps we want our children to respect authority, so we feel compelled to set an example.

But we must remember that authority is not always right.  We as parents are not always right.  Certainly our leaders today are not always right.  There is nothing wrong with challenging authority especially if it is wrong.  In fact, the Declaration of Independence exhorts us to not only challenge authority but to change it when it no longer serves the purpose of the people.

Politicians are often wrong.  They often don't do what is right for their own political agenda.  Police and prosecutors are often wrong as well.  And they too have their own agendas sometimes amazingly enough, it too is political in terms of the job.   They are not always right and it is our duty and our obligation as citizens to pay attention, and participate by stepping up and calling them on it.  Because if we don't, injustice can and often will happen to us.  And when it happens, the victim often wonders what happened to "with Liberty and Justice for all?"

My friend, the only way you find justice today, is to have a lot of money or a lot of power or both. Because today, no matter what you believe, you are guilty until proven innocent.
