Pray for Peace

Pray for Peace 2013-05-09T06:09:21-06:00

For the first time since GW Bush took residence in the WH, we have a legitimate chance for a bi-partisan solution for peace in Iraq.  2 men, both Senators, both presidential candidates have come together in true bi-partisan to step up and lead the way to peace in Iraq.

Senators Biden and Brownback have done something that no one else in the Senate has been able to do.  They have brought a legitimate solution to saving our troops lives and bringing them home.

But there are still obstacles.  It is called politics.  There are some in Congress and the WH that continue to use Iraq as a political wedge issue.  There is stubbornness on both sides of the political spectrum despite the fact there is 70% Americans and 70% Iraqis that want our troops to leave Iraq.  However, the Biden proposal, created by Dem Senator Joe Biden and supported by GOP Senator Brownback, is the best solution on the table.  The fact that 75 Senators voted for it and the Iraqi gov't supports it is a great sign of the promise of peace.

But there still are obstacles.  Amazingly enough, the obstacles are GW Bush and his supporters.  They want us to stay in Iraq indefinitely despite the fact that good Americans are dying every day unnecessarily.  What I find most amazing about this group is that they call themselves "Christians."   OK, maybe not so amazingly.  After all, Christ did warn us that "this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.  But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."  (Matthew 15:8-9)  He goes on to say: Let them alone:  they be blind leaders of the blind.  And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."(Matthew 15: 14)  When Peter pressed Jesus to explain his teachings further, "those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.  For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man." (Matthew 15:18-20). My point is that those who call themselves Christians don’t often act like Christians.  They don’t often act in the best interest of their fellow man but in the interest of worldly goals and riches.   The thing is that we don’t have to be subject to the will of the few any more.  We have a choice.  And as Christians, it should be an easy choice.   1 John 4:4 teaches us that: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.” Yes, Holy Spirit gives us the power to overcome these obstacles.  It’s called prayer.  I found the most interesting question about faith submitted to the Democratic candidates was the one about prayer preventing catastrophes.  Some believed the power of prayer could prevent catastrophes, some didn’t.  Well, God’s teachings about the power of prayer are very specific.   Matthew, chapter 18, verses 19-20 declares the following promise: “Again I say until you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my father which is in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” The time has come for us to do what we can in the spirit of peace and saving lives.  What can I do you ask?  You can pray.  You can take a few moments every day to thank our heavenly father for interceding in Iraq, bringing peace and saving lives.  If every one of us would add this to our prayers, I firmly believe we would see doors open that have long been shut and locked.  We can pray for God to touch the hearts and minds of those in Congress so that they see the wisdom of the bi-partisan proposal that is currently in play. We can pray to God to bring these men and women in Congress to see that it is in the best interest of America (and their own jobs as well) to support and embrace the bi-partisan proposal.  We can pray and believe that even if they won’t work for what is in the best interest of the American people, they will work for what is in the best interest of keeping their jobs.  We can thank God that 2/3’rds of both the House and Senate will understand how important it is to no longer support the failed policies of the administration and squandering our tax money which we need for problems here at home.  We can thank our heavenly father for making ways where there appear to be no way” to solve this problem.   I know there will be many who will dismiss this post as just another kooky Christian.  But I know the power of prayer.  I’ve have seen the power of prayer.  And I know what the bible teaches.   That is…..”For with God NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE.”  (Luke 1:37) Christ also teaches in Matthew 19:26: “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”  The word all means all without exception.  This is also documented the Chapters of Mark (Mark 10:27) and Luke (Luke 18:27).   It is what it is.  We can change the world through our faith.  We can pray to and believe in our heavenly Father to make a way, where there has been no way.  We can do this every day until our brave men and women who we claim to so vigorously to support, come home safe and sound.  We can write our Congressmen and Senators regardless of their party affiliation at let it be plainly known that as Christians we demand they come together for what is good for America and embrace the Biden/Brownback bi-partisan compromise solution.  (www.congress.org) We can plainly let the men and women in Washington know that we will not elect nor reelect anyone who cannot or will not represent the will of the people in America just so they can keep their job.    If we do our part, I know that God will hear and answer these prayers.  When he does, we can move on to doing great things for the good of our nation instead of squandering the precious resources of the many for the benefit of the few, the rich and the powerful.   And for all you naysayer’s out there, all I can say to you is, that it certainly can’t hurt.
