The Mother of all Injustices
I enjoyed reading all the responses to this blog and will add some additional comments for your consideration.
I have noted some common themes on this website. One theme goes something like this: “We Democrats care about the poor just like Jesus commanded and all you Republicans care about are abortion and gay rights”. Another theme sounds like: “You Republicans are against gay rights but look at your divorce rate!” And one more: “You Republican Christians call abortion murder but you support capital punishment”. Please allow me to add some thoughts on these themes.
I see little difference in the amount of money spent by the current Republican controlled federal government and the amounts spent under governments controlled by Democrats. I believe the facts show that spending on the poor has continued to increase regardless of what political party is in control. Where we differ on this issue is not on our responsibility to care for the poor but on the best way to accomplish the task. Liberals believe big government is the answer to most questions and is the best solution to helping the poor. Conservatives believe in individual responsibility, local control, and limited government. I personally believe the government should take a back seat in this issue and the church should step up to its responsibility of caring for the poor.
Now let’s examine the “look at your divorce rate” defense of the gay rights agenda. People like me who rejected abortion and opted to have more than one child have often heard this defense. When scolding Johnny for smacking Susie in the face, Johnny responds, “Susie did something bad too!” as if that justifies his actions. Yes, there is a problem with divorce among Christians and they need to correct this problem. But how does this fact make gay marriage right? Does the “wrongness” of divorce between men and women of faith somehow justify gay marriage? Of course not! Divorce is harming our families and we must not compound our marriage problems by instituting gay marriage as well.
The final issue applies the “moral equivalency” test to abortion and capital punishment. Abortion supporters think those who oppose abortion and support the death penalty are hypocritical. When God gave the 10 Commandments, including “thou shalt not kill”, He went on in subsequent verses to institute the death penalty for certain crimes. In our society, we execute people after they have been found guilty of heinous crimes. We also kill unborn babies who are guilty of no crimes. They haven’t even had a chance to spill milk on the floor! Yes, I unashamedly support the death penalty for those convicted of heinous crimes and vehemently oppose the death penalty for those convicted of none. I do not see that as hypocritical but as just. I do not rejoice when a person is executed for their crime, but I do believe it is a just end for those duly convicted of certain crimes. I would, however, be willing to compromise with the abortion supporters on this issue. If it were in my power to change our countries policies, I would gladly give up my support for the death penalty to save the lives of the millions killed by abortion. The great injustice of our age is the millions of aborted innocent souls. Their souls cry out for justice and drown out the appeals for votes from those who continue to support abortion. I believe history will judge this as the MOTHER OF ALL INJUSTICES.
