that’s just what Jesus tells us to do, kill or convert them. crazy. I’m in shock.

  • Gene Smith

Good ole southern christian theology…minus Christ. Lord have mercy.

What is this faux-billy doing on False….er, Fox News anyhow? Maybe he’s hoping to start a new career as an “expert” on Middle East issues once his show reaches its inevitable demise….

Oh wait…..something tells me that his appearance just might have something to do with a certain new book he’s trying to sell….maybe….possibly…..

Say hello to the next Crusade…

  • Greg Richter

    I
actually watched this interview and the one last week Hannity did with
the British Imam who sides with ISIS. Though the “convert them or kill
them” quote makes a great headline — and I’ve written headlines for a
living for 25 years — Robertson actually said that we should try to
lead members of ISIS to Christ. He said that’s not likely to happen, and
if they continue trying to kill innocent people, we should kill them.
You can disagree with his assessment, but it’s far different than ISIS’s
“convert or be killed” rule. They actually take people who are minding
their own business and demand they convert to their brand of Islam or be
killed. Robertson is saying we should pray these terrorist stop their
terrorism and attempt to win them to Christ. But if they continue in
their proclaimed warfare against all who refuse to follow Islam, we
should stop them, and he believes the only way to do so is to fight them
    and kill them.

  • How is ISIS’s approach any different than God in the OT? No, I don’t side with ISIS in this but I can’t help but go back into the history of my own faith and see something quite similar and every bit as horrific.

If conversion is what you’re looking for, then why not try to convert ISIS members to a more moderate (intelligent) form of Islam, or to a form of Sufism, or to humanism?

  • Greg Richter

I’m not Phil Robertson’s spokesman, but I assume he would try to convert them to Christianity because he is himself a Christian. But, based on his statement quoted here, he wouldn’t kill them if they did indeed convert to a moderate form of Islam. He only suggested killing them to stop them from killing others. They could convert to Buddhism, atheism or anything else and he’d likely not condone killing them. I’ve yet to hear him say he condoned killing anyone else — including moderate Islamists. ISIS, on the other hand, does condone killing anyone who doesn’t buy into their radical form of Islam.

    Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!

So basically, a marginally less worse approach to the matter than ISIS’s.

Phil hasn’t beheaded anybody yet, but he does seem envious.

” because he is himself a Christian”

Is he? Or is he as much a Christian as the members of ISIS are Muslims?

  • Why is there even something called a Duck Dynasty in the first place? Because people’s morbid curiosity makes them believe that dumber may somehow be better than smarter. This video is a prime example of that.

  • He said nothing about a moderate form of Islam. He did say he’s a Christian. It’s obvious he meant convert them to Christianity. He’s a narrow-minded dope who doesn’t even get what the terrorism is about.

  • So true.

  • Benjamin Martin

Or the NT deity for that matter, considering the summary execution of Ananias and Sapphira. A most unnerving episode, lacking only in the gratuitous TV gore of ISIS.

  • Joel Kessler

Convert them or Kill them. I’m glad Jesus didn’t do that with us, but instead allowed us to kill Him so that His love might be shown as ultimate no matter how violent the hatred has gotten. God bless Phil Robertson with the love of Jesus in his heart for his enemies and when the bible says “love your enemies” I’m pretty sure, at the very least, it doesn’t mean kill them.

Also people believe that reality television is real. This family is as fake as they come. The sons looked like they fell out of a J. Crew catalogue until they wanted a reality show. The second generation is also college educated. And the production crews have to be careful to only shoot close angles when filming them in their homes because they live in mansions that don’t fit their hillbilly image. They are not dumb. They are shrewd business people that realized that dumb sells and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

And let’s not forget that they’re millionaires and part of the .01% group. They’ve made it plain that they don’t need the reality show to make a living. Their shewdness goes way back, and the hick image they like to project is, as you’ve noted, just part of their current marketing strategy.

  • Yeah, that’s what I’ve been trying to figure out… why is a costumed CEO of a duck call company being asked for an “expert” opinion on anything other than duck calls?
