Is Love REALLY All We Need?

Is Love REALLY All We Need? August 24, 2023

Love is a concept that is universal and timeless. It is something that transcends religion, culture, and language. Love is the foundation of all human relationships, and it is also at the center of our relationship with the divine. In fact, many people believe that God is love, and love is God. This means that however we define God, love has to be at the center of everything we do, or we are missing the point completely.

The idea that God is love is not a new one. In fact, it can be found in many religious and spiritual traditions. For example, the Bible says, “God is love” (1 John 4:8), and the Qur’an says, “God is most loving” (11:90). In Hinduism, love is seen as the essence of God’s nature, while in Buddhism, compassion and loving-kindness are considered to be the highest virtues.

When we understand that God is love, it changes the way we approach our relationship with the divine. Instead of seeing God as a distant and judgmental deity, we see God as a loving and compassionate force in the universe. We begin to understand that God’s love is unconditional and all-encompassing, and that it is available to us no matter what we have done or who we are. We also begin to see much of the teachings and narratives of the church as false.

When we understand that love is at the center of our relationship with the divine, it changes the way we approach our relationships with others. We begin to see every person as a beloved child of God, and we treat them with the same love and compassion that we would want for ourselves. We begin to see the world through the eyes of love, and we approach every situation with kindness and understanding.

However, it’s important to note that love is not just a feeling or an emotion. Love is an action. It is something we do, not just something we feel. When we truly love someone, we show it through our actions. We listen to them, support them, and show them kindness and compassion. We put their needs before our own, and we strive to help them become the best version of themselves.

And at a time when many people we love are under increasing attack, it is more important than ever to show our love by standing up and speaking up – even when our voice shakes.

The idea that God is love, and love is God, is a powerful one. It reminds us that at the center of our relationship with the divine, and with each other, is love. When we approach our lives with love at the forefront, we begin to see the world in a different way. We become more compassionate, more understanding, and more connected to the divine. And ultimately, we become better versions of ourselves, and we create a more loving world.

Above all else, love.
