In a stunning display of the extent of the brokenness of man, our local St. Vincent DePaul food distribution center, which gives assistance to nearly 10,000 people a week, was victimized by criminals twice in the last three months.

Yes, that’s right. In the first instance, copper wiring was stolen from three of the distribution center’s rooftop cooling systems (for keeping the perishable food cold), and the second incident was when three of the center’s trucks which they use to pick up food donations from around the city was vandalised, with windows being broken and tires slashed.

All told, it will cost the center nearly 30,000 dollars to fix these things which are vital to their operations.

Dispicable.

But not surprising. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the drug addicts who stole the copper wiring had mothers or grandmothers who go to St. Vincent DePaul to get food.

Anyway, the center is one of the places in town which we are involved with and I was heartbroken to learn that this had happened.

Luckily, in September they are having their annual one-mile walk fundraiser for the center. Atticus, Maggie and I are going to participate this year, and I am soliciting sponsors. SO, if you might be interested in sending a few dollars my way for St. Vincent DePaul Indy, please let me know!  The walk isn’t until the end of September, but I want to try and raise as much as we can for them. The work they do is vital in our community. Every dollar they have to spend fixing something some kunckle-head broke, is a dollar they can’t spend feeding people.

I am about to do some serious bloggy soul searching. I don’t know if you’ve noticed lately, but my posts have been sort of blah. I only seem to come up with something worthwhile when I am writing for Ignitum Today, and that’s only once a month, so…

I think a big part of the problem is that I am lacking focus. I guess I started a blog thinking it would be like a journal where I would write about whatever I felt like. Which I did for a while, but now that seems so stale. I want to have a focus, but I don’t know for sure yet what that should be.

So, I am going to take the plunge and complete the Momcomm DIY Blog Critique e-book.

Hopefully this will lead to some more thoughtful, focused posts from me in the coming weeks.

The women’s group I am part of is starting an ENDOW study in September. I just registered it for enrollment today, which coincidently (or not!) is the feast of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) who is the subject of the study we are undertaking!

St. Teresa Benedicta, pray for us.

We went to the fair on Sunday. It was glorious.

Maggie got to pet her very first horse. She saw piglets and squealed with delight. We all ate pulled pork and shared a family milkshake.

One of the things new this year that I liked was the local food pavillion. They had a whole display about local foods, the importance of local farms, sustainability, and then had a little “market” with both fresh and preserved foods from local artisans, farms, and food companies. It was so cool. Got to see some of our favorites, as well as find out about other new businesses too.

Like 240 Sweet. They are makers of artisan marshmallows, which is apparently a thing now.

They had free samplings of their “elephant ear” (cinnamon and sugar) and lychee flavored marshmallows. Too much!

I have a really delicious blog post up my sleeve for Monday. Stay tuned for more. Let’s just say, it will make you glad that it’s s-t-i-l-l summer. I hope.

This weekend we are taking Maggie to visit grandma and grandpa’s house. Looking forward to taking her to all of Daddy’s old stomping grounds from his childhood. But maybe not the petting zoo. Giardia, anyone?

Have you seen the hipster Disney princesses?

And on that note, have a great weekend folks!

See Jen for more Quick Takes!
