Exodus 13: The Freedom God Provides

Exodus 13: The Freedom God Provides March 28, 2012

“In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. -Exodus 13:15

Rituals tell stories. Passover portrays the narrative of Israel’s redemption from Egyptian slavery. Still today, Jews celebrate Passover to remember the freedom God provided long ago.

Yet God has been providing freedom on many other occasions since that important day. We may not establish a holiday to celebrate, but every day we live in Christ is a time to rejoice. Let us not forget the freedom he has given–from sin, from guilt, from hopelessness. Today we walk forward as new people, no longer living as slaves to sin.

We can pause today to remember his grace on our souls just as the Jews have to remember the freedom physically provided on that first Passover. When we do, we bring joy to our redeemer, the One who created us and longs for us to live in intimate fellowship with him.
