“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” -Deuteronomy 29:29
God knows all. That was the view of God among Israel. Building on this theme, Moses said in Deuteronomy 29:29 that the “secret things belong to the Lord our God.” What people cannot figure out, God knows. Where we are weak, he is strong.
But this was not the end of statement. We are also told the “things that revealed” belong to God’s people.
Why? God revealed his word “that we may do all the words of this law.” God does not reveal his word to confuse us, but to inspire us to live it.
What was true of the law for the Jews in the past is true of the larger revelation of both Old and New Testament to the followers of Jesus today. It is revealed for us to know and to live. Let us read it–and obey it–this day.
