1 Kings 7: Every Last Detail

When all the work King Solomon had done for the temple of the Lord was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated—the silver and gold and the furnishings—and he placed them in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple. -1 Kings 7:51

God gave David a vision for how the temple would be constructed, but commanded that David’s son would be the one to actually build it. Solomon obeyed, down to every last detail.

1 Kings 5 lists an array of aspects related to the details of the temple’s construction. In the final verse, the silver and gold furnishings were added to the treasuries of the temple. Solomon could have easily left this last part out, using the gold and silver for himself, but he didn’t.

Sometimes God gives principles that are open ended, like to love your neighbor as yourself. There are many ways to apply this truth. At other times, however, God gives a specific plans with exact details. When he does, we dare not go our own way and leave out a few steps.

If we do, it’s like a puzzle with a few missing pieces–you get the idea of what the picture should be, but it is not complete. God’s vision for our lives requires us to follow him fully, not only when convenient. Today’s let’s skip the shortcuts of our culture and pursue God’s plan for our lives to the fullest.
