Then he prayed, “LORD, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. -Genesis 24:12
Abraham’s life influenced the lives of those around him. Genesis 24 offers an insightful example. Here, Abraham’s servant is sent on a mission–to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac. No doubt, this is one of Abraham’s most senior advisers. He does not want to mess this up. What does he do to find success? He prays to Abraham’s God.
Abraham’s most faithful worker knew his works would not be enough. God had to intervene. The same God who had blessed Abraham’s life and with a child in his old age could provide the perfect wife for Isaac. The servant trusted God with his success. As the chapter reveals, God answered. Rebekah showed up and soon became Isaac’s wife.
We often underestimate the influence of our lives on those around us. Genesis 24 gives a great example to remember–how we relate to God impacts how those around us relate to God.
