Hearing God’s Voice: The Lord’s Pattern for Making Decisions, Finding God’s Will [Video]

Hearing God’s Voice: The Lord’s Pattern for Making Decisions, Finding God’s Will [Video] July 18, 2013

Of all the questions I receive most as a Mom-friend and mentor to my daughter’s teen friends, from others of the rising generation, and as I’ve listened to adults chatting about their own decision-making processes, uncertainties, and walk with God, this is one that stands out among many: How can I know God’s will? Am I really getting the message right? How do I get in tune with the Spirit? Am I missing some spiritual boomerang? And how many times have each of us kicked ourselves for not listening to a nudge we did receive and knew we should have listened to. How does revelation work? That’s what this I Believe Video/Audio Podcast is about, in short form.

My Spirit Will Enlighten Your Mind. And to that end, I’m reminded of a poster a Christian speaker had seen recently. He said it was a drawing of an old man dancing around some train tracks holding a small radio near his ear. Underneath the picture it read: “Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.” I’d like to modify that here to say, “Those who danced were sought after by those who wanted to but weren’t sure how to hear the music.”

In this I Believe Podcast, I address simply the Lord’s pattern, with some reflections about its implications and what it feels like in my life, as a lay Christian woman. I hope you’ll join me as I talk about the part God asks us to do, and what He’ll do as we decide on major moves, career undertakings, who to marry–or not, where to go next.

The Spirit is real. God’s voice is real. He has a clear, compelling pattern for receiving direction, His will, answers to prayers, guidance, inspiration. It is a perfect plan that balances agency and inspiration.

Scripture Verse:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things. Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God? (Jesus Christ, Modern Revelation: Book of Doctrine and Covenants 6:22-23).

Faith Quote:

The Holy Ghost communicates important information that we need to guide us in our mortal journey. When it is crisp and clear and essential, it warrants the title of revelation. When it is a series of promptings we often have to guide us step by step to a worthy objective, for the purpose of this message, it is inspiration. Richard G. Scott, 2012.
