Why did we do all of this celebrating? The spiritual reason is simple. Christmas is a time to celebrate the incarnation of God into the world. Truthfully, I don’t think that most people understand what such a statement means. In our highly religious descriptions of Christmas, we often fail to tell people…Christmas is a time to remember that love was made flesh. The intersection of the divine and the human is always centered on love. The writer of 1 John 4:8 tells us, “God is Love.” With love and God being synonymous terms, the description of Christmas gets simpler.
Love was born in all fullness in a stable full of shit in Bethlehem. Love got dirty in order to be with us. Love died so that others might live. Love never dies. Those who are following God or love will exist in shitty situations and places. When you choose to be like God and love people, you have to get in the shit with them.
The message of Post-Christmas Day is simple…
Go now and follow the love that is God and get stinky.
