“My question is for District Attorney Watkins.  My name is Jeff Hood.  I am a Baptist minister and I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.  I am particularly troubled by the case of our panelist Christopher Scott who was wrongfully convicted of capital murder and served twelve years for a crime he did not commit before he was exonerated.  What if Dallas County had pursued the death penalty in Scott’s case?  I also think about the cases of Cameron Todd Willingham and Carlos DeLuna who have been proven to the satisfaction of most to have been wrongfully executed.  You have spoken much about doubt and race tonight…yet your office not only leads the state in death sentences…but also a large majority of those persons sentenced to death were minorities.  With so much doubt…why does your office still pursue sentences of death?”
