Sermonizing at the Strip Club

Sermonizing at the Strip Club October 24, 2018

King’s Cabaret

October 21, 2018

1am

We have talked. We have met.  We have done everything we can think of and more.  We have been brought to the place of a fundamental question: “How long oh God…how long?  How long?  How long?”

(A patron of the club walks through.  Protestors tell him about the murder and beg him not to go in.  He declares that he needs to go in. Turning away, he walks away smiling.)

The nonchalant response that we just saw is the reason that the tragedies keep on happening. Nobody is acting like a young woman was slaughtered in this parking lot.  These people have forgotten her name.  Say her name!  Shniquia Simington!  Shniquia Simington!  Shniquia Simington!

All of these dancers are coming out her and saying how much they love Shniquia.  If they love Shniquia, they would be out here with us. People are so turned around. It seems that people don’t even know what love looks like anymore.

What’s wrong with these folks?  What’s wrong with this club?  What’s wrong with this security guard?  What’s wrong with our world?  What’s wrong with our world?  What’s wrong with a world where 27-year-old mother has no value? Complacency and inaction are the answers.  However…  We are going to choose to be different. We are not going to be complacent or inactive.  We are going to stand for justice.  We are going to stand for Shniquia.  We are going to keep on keeping on.  We are going to stand out here protesting until Shniquia’s killer…Dan Taylor…is in jail!!!  We are ready to do whatever is necessary.  As long as we have breath, we are going to shout.  As long as we have feet, we are going to march.  As long as we have brains, we are going to know what happened here that night.  We are going to know that Dan Taylor was Shniquia’s killer. We are going to know that the King’s Cabaret has been destroying and withholding evidence.  We are going to know.

(Two men walk toward the door of the club.  They stop to speak with us.  Members of Shniquia’s family beg them to not go in.  I explained the situation.  After they considered the situation for a second, the two men turn around to go somewhere else.  We all thanked them and cheered.)

Let me tell you something!  You can call it God. You can call it Allah.  You can call it love.  Whatever you call it, something just happened. We just experienced a transformation…a resurrection.  When we first got here, everybody was concerned that the crowd had shrunk from last time.  I can tell you that we didn’t experience the miracle that we just experienced last time.  We are marching on.  Without fail, we are going to get justice.  We are going to see that miracle.  We are going to get justice.

“What do we want???”

“Justice!!!”

“When do we want it???”

“Now!!!”

“What do we want???”

“Justice!!!”

“When do we want it???”

“Now!!!”

“What do we want???”

“Justice!!!”

“When do we want it???”

“Now!!!”

“Amen…Amen…& Amen.”
