The Realm of God in Motion: The Rhythm of Faith
Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 5, 2025
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.” – Luke 17:6
They Were on the Road with Jesus
They were on the road with Jesus when one of them said, “Lord, we don’t have enough faith. It feels so small. Can you give us more?” Jesus stopped…looked at them…dusty, tired, unsure. “You think you need a lot? You don’t. Even a speck can move the impossible.” He went on… “Faith isn’t a stunt. It’s a rhythm…breath by breath, step by step, heartbeat by heartbeat. Small. Steady. Daily.” Beloved. This is a word for us. We keep thinking faith must be spectacular…lightning strikes…miracles. But Jesus says…no…faith is quiet persistent motion.
Faith as Courage
The rhythm is courage that refuses to bend. It’s showing up when fear shouts. It’s loving when the world chooses cruelty. It’s confronting those who build walls while others starve, who drop bombs while children scream, who exploit the poor for their own gain. Oppressors surround us. Families torn apart by raids. Leaders twisting truth while chaos spreads. In Gaza…explosions continue amid promises of peace. Trump…still doing all of his bullshit. Across the globe…journalists vanish, protests are crushed, forests burn, oceans rise, wealth accumulates for a few while billions suffer.
The problems feel unshakable. Dense, hidden in the shadows, immovable. Yet a single act of faith can ignite change. One choice to act with courage can alter everything. One small defiance can bend reality.
The Rhythm of Faith
Faith is the force through which the realm of God enters our world. Each step of integrity, each gesture of compassion, each whispered prayer and each hand extended to the hurting bends creation toward justice. Loving your neighbor as yourself is not just moral theory…it is the rhythm of God that ushers in the realm of God. Every act of care, every sacrifice for another and every refusal to let another suffer without aid accelerates the arrival of God’s eternal presence.
We feel inadequate, tiny. Jesus says…start where you are. Take one breath. Make one move. Follow one heartbeat. That is enough to shift the balance. It is exhausting. Comfort, reputation, safety…all are challenged. But nothing else grants meaning as profoundly. Faith is not a display. It is quiet insurgency with unstoppable determination.
The Rhythm of Faith : Responding to Everyday Atrocities
Everyday atrocities confront us. Children taken, homes destroyed, communities uprooted. Lies overwhelm truth. Jesus says…Begin immediately. Engage courageously. Love consistently. Love your neighbor as yourself. In this love, heaven presses down, oppression trembles and the realm of God surges forward.
One action inspires another. One expression of care affirms existence. One refusal to submit exposes false power. Even hidden deeds ripple outward…destabilizing structures built on cruelty.
The Rhythm of Faith : Prayer and Devotion as Faith Maintenance
Faith carries divine pulse. Courage rises when despair commands stillness. Defiance erupts when the world declares us powerless. Invisible forces shift. Chains loosen. Mountains respond. Life surges. The realm of God manifests through human obedience and risk.
But faith must be maintained. Prayer is the engine, personal devotion the rhythm that sustains courage to act. Each morning whispered to God, each quiet reflection, each hour spent in communion with the Spirit strengthens the soul for the challenges ahead. Prayer aligns the heart, tunes the mind and fuels the courage that bends reality. Devotion is not separate from action…it nourishes it. Without it, the rhythm falters…with it, even the smallest act becomes unstoppable.
The Ordinary as Extraordinary
This rhythm starts in kitchens where meals are shared, in quiet prayers, in classrooms nurturing minds, in hospital rooms holding pain. Ordinary acts collide with eternity and create rupture lines where justice emerges. Environmental crises demand attention. Rising waters, raging fires, collapsing ecosystems call for action. Health inequities threaten countless lives. Systems of racial injustice persist. Faith mobilizes advocates, protects communities, amplifies voices, and challenges those in authority.
The unseen are no longer ignored. We go where they are. Streets where hunger sleeps. Cells where innocence suffers. Camps where refugees wander. We commit ourselves to be…to work there…to pray there…until such places exist no more. This is the realm of God appearing. God moving through ordinary humans with extraordinary consequence. Every act of neighborly love, strengthened by prayer and devotion, accelerates the realm of God. Each reflection, each whispered prayer, is a doorway through which earth becomes heaven.
The Rhythm of God : Daily Dedication and Global Impact
Daily dedication is essential. Not once…not for show…but as steady commitment. Protecting the vulnerable, offering sustenance, confronting injustice, fostering hope…this is the method by which reality shifts and life blooms for all. The smallest measure within you is sufficient. Your courage, your hands, your voice, your presence…all contribute to God’s intervention. Every choice matters. Every act counts. Every love transforms.
Oppressors stumble. Those who thrived on fear falter. Systems built on cruelty fracture. Natural and social structures respond. The rhythm of God surges forward. It begins with the tiniest commitment. Each act releasing energy that transforms darkness into light, oppression into liberation, despair into hope. Divine presence is tangible, advancing visibly in and through human action, nourished by prayer, devotion and the relentless love of neighbor.
The Realm of God Explodes
Oh God! Thy realm come! Thy will be done on earth! On earth as it is in heaven! Can you feel it? The realm of God is about to explode. Now. Here. Through you. Through your hands, your words, your heartbeat. Do you feel it? Surging? Trembling? Chains shattering? Towers of injustice crumbling? Rivers of justice flooding the earth? The realm of God is erupting. It cannot be stopped. It will not wait.
So… Rise, people of God. Rise, Beloved. Embrace the rhythm of faith. Stand. Speak. March. Feed. Shelter. Protect. Comfort. Confront. Challenge. Resist. Persist. Persevere. Now. This second. Through you. Through us. The realm of God bursts forth. It begins. It erupts. It will not be contained.
