There is No Achievement

Early this morning, I got a call from someone I’ve long loved. While he often says hurtful things, today was particularly biting. In a concerned fashion, he insinuated that he felt like I’d never achieved anything. Because it was coming from him, I was particularly hurt. Without responding in anger, I assured him that we have different ideas of success. Loudly, he proclaimed, “There is no achievement apart from money!” While I’ve never earned much money, I am smart enough to know that it doesn’t matter. Perhaps, the idea of achievement doesn’t matter either. God doesn’t measure achievement. God measures being. We are made in the image of God. With every breath, we are to be that image. There is no achievement. There is only God. Fuck anything else.
