A Prayer for Tremane Wood

O God of mercy
O God who bends close to the suffering and the condemned
we lift before You this hour Tremane Wood
Your child, Your creation, Your beloved.
You have known him since before he took his first breath.
You have seen his struggles, his mistakes, his growth and his faith.
You have been near through years of waiting
through nights filled with fear and through moments of hope.
Now as he stands before a time of great uncertainty
we ask You to let Your mercy rise and speak through the hearts of those who will decide his future.

God, You know how much the world needs mercy.
We live in a land that often forgets that punishment does not heal
that death does not bring peace.
We pray that Your Spirit will move like wind through every room where Tremane Wood’s fate is considered.
Let compassion replace hardness.
Let understanding overcome judgment.
Let the desire for life be stronger than the desire for vengeance.
Let the light of Your love guide every thought and every choice.
Let all who show mercy now be shown mercy in return,
so that Your grace may multiply through this moment and beyond.

Hold Tremane Wood close, Lord.
In this waiting time give him strength to face each day.
Let him feel Your presence in the quiet of the cell
in the prayers whispered by those who care for him
in the letters, the visits, the small signs of love that remind him he is not alone.
Keep his heart steady, his mind clear and his spirit open to Your grace.
If he feels despair lift him.
If he feels forgotten remind him that You never forget.
If fear surrounds him let Your peace be stronger still.

We pray for every person who will speak or listen in the days ahead.
Let truth be heard.
Let compassion have the final word.
Let the dignity of Tremane Wood’s life be recognized as sacred
not because of what he has done or left undone
but because he bears Your image.
Give courage to those who advocate for him
and give wisdom to those who hold authority over him.
Let them see through the lens of Your mercy.
Let their hearts be softened by the knowledge that all life belongs to You.

God of justice and tenderness
we pray not only for Tremane Wood but for all whose lives are bound up in his story.
We pray for his family
for those who love him and carry the heavy ache of uncertainty.
Strengthen them, Lord.
Let them feel Your arms around them when the world seems too harsh.
Let them find peace even in the midst of waiting.
May their love remain steadfast
and may it be a reflection of Your own unending love.

We pray too for the family of the one whose life was lost.
Their grief runs deep and their wounds are real.
Meet them in that pain, O God.
Surround them with compassion that does not fade.
Help them to find paths of healing that do not depend on another’s suffering.
Let Your grace touch the places in their hearts where anger and sorrow still dwell.
May they one day find rest in Your peace
knowing that love not death is what truly heals.

We pray for all who work within the system of punishment and power
for the officers and officials, the judges, the advocates
the unseen hands that carry out the will of the state.
Protect their souls from the burden of violence.
Open their eyes to the human cost of what they are asked to do.
Let mercy enter their hearts like light through a locked window.
Even in the hardest hearts let the possibility of compassion take root and grow.

Holy Spirit, we ask that You breathe Your peace into Tremane Wood’s spirit.
Let him rest in the knowledge that You hold his life in Your hands.
Let every moment be filled with Your strength and Your calm.
Even in the face of fear let him find trust.
Even in the shadow of death let him feel the warmth of Your light.
Remind him that he is surrounded by people who are praying
people who believe in mercy
people who refuse to let his name be forgotten.
Let him know that Your love endures longer than any sentence and deeper than any prison.

We remember, O Lord, that Your Son also faced the judgment of the state.
He too was sentenced, mocked and led away to die.
You were with Him through it all.
You were in His pain, His surrender and His final breath.
And when the world thought all was finished
You revealed that death does not have the last word.
Do the same now, Lord.
Let Your resurrection power move in this situation.
Let new life rise where despair has settled.
Let mercy speak louder than the machinery of death.

We pray for the people of Oklahoma
for citizens, leaders and communities who must decide what kind of justice they will uphold.
Let the spirit of compassion awaken across the land.
Let hearts remember that every person condemned to die is still someone’s child
still capable of change
still held in Your love.
Turn this moment into a witness for life.
Let it show the world that mercy is stronger than fear.

God of life let Your will be mercy.
Let Your will be healing.
Let Your will be peace.
We place Tremane Wood into Your hands.
We place those who judge him into Your hands.
We place ourselves there too asking that You shape us into people who believe in redemption
who defend the dignity of every life
who speak truth even when it is costly.

When the decision is made, Lord
let it reflect Your heart.
Let mercy prevail.
Let the world see in this moment a sign that love still has power to change things.
And if sorrow comes let it not destroy hope.
Let every tear become a seed of justice
so that future generations may live in a world that no longer kills in the name of the law.

We entrust Tremane Wood to You, O God of compassion.
Be near to him this hour and in the days to come.
Hold him in Your grace
and let Your mercy surround him like a river that cannot be stopped.
Let every prayer spoken for him become part of the work You are doing to heal this broken world.

In the name of the One who was condemned and yet rose again
Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and our peace
Amen.
