A Plea for Listening to the Other

What is there to learn here?

First, Republicans are moving significantly toward FoxNews. Democrats have dropped only slightly in listening to the conservative voices.

Second, the only way for Americans to be genuinely educated and intelligent is to learn to listen to both sides — or more than one side, sometimes three, four or even more — in order to hear the Other. It will never hurt us to know what others think.

Third, news stations do the citizens a disservice when they line up with a party. A serious disservice. Why? Because news then becomes advocacy. I say this of FoxNews, which is far more overt in its advocacy, and of CNN, which is less overt, but … does anyone really doubt where it stands?
